And why would Swift open a trainee's card to fuel, when they have no truck? Seem's like a poor business decision in my opinion. They can be trained to use the card while the trainer is using his to fuel.
Also...call me greedy, call me a jerk, but were it me, the trainee is NOT getting rewards points off MY fuel purchase---they will have their own opportunity to rack up points in 6 to 8 weeks when they get a truck. And for some reason; I believe that is how the majority of trainers see it as well. -
Perhaps an explanation of the fueling system is in order. With every dispatch a company truck will receive a fuel route with fuel stops. The fuel stops location and fueling amount is dictated by swift and the cards are preactivated for only the set amount at the set place. So whether it is the mentor or the student's card that fuels the truck is irrelevant, it can only be fueled where, when, and how much at swift's discretion.
Sometimes it is smartest to have the student fuel if it is advantageous for the mentor to be off duty, and as you know you must be on duty for fueling. If the student were to fuel with the mentor's card it would be inconvient as the student would need the mentor's license number. It can also open up some investigations in the safety department if the auditors see the mentor off duty but his card was used to fuel the truck. -
Why would Swift allow a trainee to fuel? Simple, that's part of the training. Duh.
Okay, I'll call you a greedy jerk. There's no reason a good trainer should have to steal points or shower credits from a student. A mentor/trainer is already making good money from team phase driving, there's no reason to be dipping into the trainee's pocket as well.GWS, driverdriver, Moosetek13 and 2 others Thank this. -

If the mentor is doing what he is supposed to be doing during the first 50 hours, he would be on duty not driving in the passenger seat. Since fueling is an on duty not driving function, use of either fuel card in this situation would not result in a failed audit.
