I'm currently living in Wisconsin. I went to the 10 week cdl course at Fox valley tech and immediately started driving for a local company In the beginning of October. I'm relocating to bloomington, Indiana on April 1st. I'm married with a one year old and another on the way in July. I know the nature of the business is to maximize hours, but my ideal job would be 10 hours a day 4 or 5 days a week. My question is...is there a particular industry I should look at for this type of schedule? I know that the right dedicated run could offer this. Is there a company anybody knows of in that area I should look into? Any and all assistance concerning this matter will be greatly appreciated!

Fuel hauling. Do you have hazmat/tanker endorsements? My buddy makes good money delivering gasoline to Shell stations and home every night.

    DukTruckin and Shaggy Thank this.

Yea I do have my tanker endorsement and passed the hazmat test I just didn't pay for it cause my current employer doesn't require it. So anyway that sounds good. That's a good starting point, so, thanks for the idea Chinatown.

I agree with Chinatown. I was OTR for a long time. Recently went to work for Airgas. Hourly pay, over time after 8, home every day, weekends off. I love it. I know they are nationwide. See if there is a branch near you and apply.

Yes! Along with fuel hauling, be sure to check out LTL companies. I believe Saia has a terminal right in Bloomington.
A local linehaul run typically puts you in the 10 hr range and has you home daily.
Not sure of Saia's linehaul availability out of that terminal, but food for thought (and worth researching).
Check out other LTLs as well.

Saia, good choice. I know some drivers in another state that work for Saia and love the company.

Im liking it so far. I drive a transfer truck. Meaning I load a flatbed pallet truck out of the main plant with cylinders and deliver them to different stores. Everything from industrial gasses to medical gasses. It's a good gig. You should definitely look into the company.
