The real problem with the ABS traction control is, it blew out a drive shaft on my new 01 with 77K on it. I was pulling my Hood 24000 slasher. It was on a VT road in the winter, up hill. The tractor had the 46K rears, 3.90, full locks. The slasher had the saw behind it, so no backing up. It started to spin with the divider in. So I locked both diffs. Kept chugging up the hill slowly, but kept moving. Then because the "computer" only saw 5MPH on the front axle and the rears at 20MPH it decided to APPLY the rear brakes. That C-15 kept going though. I knew it was bad, but you dont want to stop, then what, you wont be able to get going again. Luckily it exploded at the top of the hill. I drove it the rest of the way with just forward axle drive. Of course I was told how to disable the whole system once I got the truck back to the dealer. I think it should be put on one of the switches on the dash to be able to kill it when really needed.

Man, that's a bad deal. I have found that the traction control pulls throttle out just when you need it! When you are going through deep snow and mud you often need the wheel speed to clean the tires out and keep you moving. I'd just rather decide for myself lol!!

Cetane, I don't follow how the axles could be turning at different speeds with everything locked up? I have three way locks which could allow a wheel on the front axle to turn twice as fast as the rears, but I also don't have a traction control to apply brakes when trying to climb a hill in the winter. (mines an 04).

The front axle is the steer axle. That is not driven.

Ha Ha didn't read close enough. Why would it take out the rear diff tho, or was it getting ready to go? Wouldn't be any worse than crawling through mud axle deep would it, and esp with 46's?

The rear is the weaker one. It blew out the intermediate drive shaft. Thats the far weaker of the two.
