My plan vs realality

My advice would be to enroll in the school and have it knocked out during your terminal leave. Take a week or two off for a breather...then roll into class. Have your endorsements knocked out before you graduate.

Edit: Don't get me wrong...I enjoyed my terminal leave (spent that time mountain biking, getting ready for college, and drinking with friends), but try to at least do something productive during part of it (I just ****** off for 45 days, lol.).

I think having some kind of structure (having the class to go to) would help your transition to civilian life. Speaking from experience...it's quite an adjustment and can suck a bit if you literally have nothing useful to do during that time. Good luck.

 

My advice: Stay in and retire. If you think that you are putting up with some BS now.........just wait until you get out here. Just a different animal with the same ole smell. You will be young enough after you retire to try trucking if you still want to.

 

If he's at 10+ years...yup...I second that.

Yup. I knew guys that got out with 12-16 years in. Even in my lower-mid 20's...I didn't get that. I did one long enlistment (six years). It's pretty rare that I have the "I wish I had stayed in" thought. I never really considered making a career of it though.

 

anyone with over ten years in that gets out is a fool, stay in there, get that pension, THEN think about a second career

 

My question is are you married and is there anything holding you to that location? If not find what company suits u best move to where there best freight lane is then you will get ample home time. If your single then check go with the one that pays the best and live out of a suitcase for 5 years if you want to own your own truck. This will give you the most opportunity for loads and make as much as you can. Also go to walmart buy food and prepare as many meals as you can to take with to save as much money as you can, and eat as healthy as possible.

 

When you are right you are right and this is the right advice. Trust me there is alot more BS in trucking than in the service. Do your time then you can truck.

 

I know it's hard to believe that anything could have more B/S than service, but that's only because you don't have any experience in trucking. If you're not in combat arms and you're not putting your life on the line everyday and you don't hate it so much that you can't sleep at night ... I would definitely consider staying in. If the reverse is true, then you've certainly paid your dues and it's time to come on out and try living your dream. Just be prepared to be a little disillusioned with the way things are out here.
