Really depends on where your at. Linehaul most places run at night and are home every day, if not then every other day.
And.... If you get the opportunity to get on with Saia, jump all over it. They are one of the better LTL companys. -
I currently work in retail as a retail clerk. I have a few customers that work for both Saia and Estes. It seems as though both of those companies have quite a few long term employees working there. Both of those companies have signs on the trailers saying that drivers are needed.
From what I have heard from employees of both of these companies, both Saia & Estes do extensive background checks, drug testing, and serious testing for physical capabilities.
A driver is expected to be able to handle freight weighing up to approximately 100 lbs. at any given time. I have yet to see an out of shape truck driver working for Saia or Estes. -
Estes and Saia both run regional extra board which means you'll be on 5 days off 2. That being said you could get lucky and jump right into a run if they have an opening but you would have to be at the right place at the right time.
I had a choice between Estes and Saia, but I chose Estes because they pay .52 per mile compared to .46 at Saia.
If you're looking for home daily line haul, OD has wild turn drivers depending on how big your local terminal is.
The one big positive I'll say about OD is that the equipment is far and away the best in the Ltl industry, but the dispatchers really let you know that you are at their mercy she don't get be started about the politics in the Chicago terminal. -
Line haul doesn't touch freight, it's all drop n hook. What your describing is local P&Dmje Thanks this.

Saia up here is advertising for line haul starting at 56cpm.
-
They start you off at their top pay under certain conditions. 56 cpm is their top pay, while you got other ltl companies that top at .60+. Saia is definitely a good place to get you're foot in the ltl door but there are better companies out there.
