FWIW-- If anybody is interested, they are hiring in Raymond, NH.

Brian started orientation yesterday. While the information is a lot for him, he is having a great time. As promised, everyone is sooooo nice to him and the two other guys in with him. He will be home this Friday night. Then back up there early Monday morning. He will be with a mentor not one but for TWO WEEKS -- that must be something kind of new. They're telling him now that very rarely is a new driver ready after a single week, but that two weeks with a mentor has become the norm. But they did say it comes down to what he and his mentor agree upon. Oh, and he is being told that during his mentored weeks, he and the mentor will both be spending the nights in hotels.Anyway, he loves the hotel they're keeping him at during orientation-- restaurant, lounge, pool, gym -- what more could a guy ask for?

So after his two mentored weeks, he will come home that Friday night and be off until the following Friday, which will be his start day. It is OK that he will be off an entire week -- his old job wants him to work for them whenever he is home from Walmart! So that's kind of neat -- he's not one to hang around the house when he isn't working, anyway. His weekends will be Wed.-Thur., and I'm sure he will work for Marquardt at least one of those days. We really don't care when his "weekends" are, other than the fact that Sunday is the only time he gets to see his youngest son. But he says he will tough it out.

Another surprise that he learned about today: He will NOT have to wait 90 days to get insurance – they told him that he will have it by March 1[SUP]st[/SUP]!!! Hoorayyyyyy!!! They said that drivers aren't treated like regular employees, that they're treated like management and that they get benefits and other stuff when the management gets them!

Also,he is very close to having seniority already! There's one guy ahead of him already at the DC. So very soon the three new hires – Brian and the other two guys at orientation with him – will be up for seniority, too. Those three will go alphabetically, with Brian being in the middle. That puts only two guys ahead of him waiting for seniority at the Raymond DC – we are pretty pleased about that!

So that's what I know so far – and it's only been two days! I'm starting to get more excited … :biggrin_25525:

    WallyWife and drozzer69 Thank this.

By law he must log any on duty time to both employees. Wal-Mart may not like that he is driving for someone else when he is supposed to be off duty. It's a legal, safety issue.

Exactly. Any time spent working for another transportation company, whether you are paid or not, must be logged. Doing so may interfere with a 34 hour reset you need to keep working after your time of with Walmart each week. Walmart will need to know about hours worked elsewhere. Do not try to hide this information.

Oh no. Do not even think of hiding anything. If they find out, you're done. Mostly because you were not being up front about it.

GOTCHA -- thank you so much for the heads-up, middleoftheroad and Tom !!! That's good to know -- I will pass that on to Brian and he will do exactly what he is supposed to do. He is very much a team player and completely into this job, and won't do anything to jeopardize it.

    THANK YOU !!!

Trust me. He deserves time off. You won't have to work two jobs. Relax.

So the week that he is going to be off in between mentored week and start day -- should he simply come out and ask somebody about that?
