That appears to be authentic truck driver gibberish. It has its roots in authentic frontier gibberish.

Hey Glacier,
I was wondering if I you could let us know which company it was, as to me it does sound like the Alberta dream job.
I too just got into Professional Driving from another field, but have past Oil/Gas Field experience in the field operator side. I would be willing to take them up on that kind of pay and conditions. Knowing the following from experience...
It is not ALL like this, but you sure will come across the following from some of the "Old Boys Club"... Just explaining it is out there and if you appreciate straight up honesty, then you can get what I mean on this, it is not really a bad thing, it is the independent attitude of Albertans and specifically the Oil Patch. It isn't Wall Street. Those people are the monsters...
As an Alberta boy, what you describe is generally how it can work out here in the Patch. Pay is great, as they are "buying your butt" to their way of thinking. "Get it done" is the only rule they don't tell you that is the only rule that matters. They have no problem paying like that on the high end (and if it was even close to what you said, that is kick-butt), but they expect one to be there 25/8, 24/7 is for slackers.
It comes from that old west attitude where everyone did what they wanted, "money talks, bulls&^t walks", no holds barred in the oil industry, more so 25 years ago. Regulations are there now, but more so than not they call them suggestions. Sorry that you got bit by that attitude. It is always a "deal with the devil" when you sign on at something that pays that well here. One has to know it going in, and be willing to say "Yes boss" until you have got enough cash stocked up to take a few months off, get a couple of good references out of it and/or bow out gracefully for another job after recovering from being worked hard. Always quit before getting fired out here. It becomes pretty obvious with their attitude to you. Really a hot and cold crowd, as they grew up with the "Angry father" boss as well, and it was way less pretty then, so passing it on still happens out here. Everyone has learned to grab all the cash as fast as you can, because the crash is always around the corner, and last on, first off is the rule. The only one that doesn't understand that is the Government here. I personally appreciate the realness of it. It's not ruthlessness, it is drive and will to be part of doing something really, really challenging.
Hope you keep your stick on the ice and keep in the game. There are more jobs like that, but with that crash, or even just the fear of it now sinking in, it is really starting to dry up on the high end... and now getting in the door is getting a bit worrying.
Thanks for sharing buddy and all the best for you.Last edited: Feb 17, 2015

Haven't been on the thread in a while, three posts since January??? guess the longevity of the thread is over. Is it that bad in Alberta that no one is posting or are you all out looking for work? Prairie Boy, Speedloader, Sarabeara, Nitrogen, nate980 whats up with work? You guys were posting on this thread all the time, you all still working or what? I almost made the move out from Ontario with my own equipment 3 years ago to start infield hauling, things were still crap in Ontario from '08-'09 recession and didn't seem to be looking to get much better. Things change though, started picking up and decided to stay a little longer, added another new trailer in 2012 and another new tractor in 2014. Just saying, I'm sure things will change in AB and will recover quicker than they did in Ontario. Things will never in my opinion be like pre '08 days in Ontario but that's a manufacturing based economy that has taken 7 years to get back to where it is now which is no where near pre '08 and I don't think ever will be. Anyway you guys in the patch should keep posting and communicating, best way to keep people informed, network and give advice etc to your peers. Good luck to you all, stay optomistic and hope things work out which I'm sure they will, after all, we are all Canadians, best people and best #### place in the world!!!
