Quick question, I know it's a lot of variables involved, but generally, once you sign a lease how difficult (or expensive) is it to break even and quit prime before your lease is up?
-
You can walk into leasing on any given day, and turn in your keys. How expensive depends on how well you've kept up your truck, and whether you are carrying any debt that you owe Prime. You're contractually bound to return the truck in the same condition you took it out except for normal wear and tear. There is a mileage escrow that's used to help fund turn-in repairs that you will forfeit if you leave early. The mileage escrow, all of your repair costs, the tire escrow, and any outstanding debt will be swept into your final settlement, along with your last weeks revenue (if any.) Any positive balance is yours, otherwise you'll owe the company.
That being said, I do know someone who kept their truck in immaculate condition. She got everything back with no spurious charges against her final settlement.Havingbabieseveryweek Thanks this. -
I agree with your choice on the ProStar with the 56 inch sleeper. Much more room than the Cascadia 48 inch sleeper. The Cascadia LW is made for those sleeping in it 2-3 nights, not for 2-3 weeks at a time. It would be much better if Prime would offer the Cascadia with the 60 inch sleeper, similar to the 72 inch condo, but with more narrow cabinets behind the seat.
-
Is Prime going to 100% LW?
-
No. LWs are standard for solo company drivers in the reefer division only. Lease operators in reefer division normally opt for a condo, plus training and team trucks are condos. Almost all flatbed drivers run condos because of the extra equipment they need, and most tankers are condos or mid-roof with a full sized sleeper. The tanker guys must be pulling some heavier loads to be getting into more LWs.

Thanks, IP

Tankers usually have condos, but if you want to go to the dedicated run out of Decatur, IN, there is a requirement for lease and lightweight. They total only about 30 trucks out of the tank division.
