We were worried about not having insurance -- especially for his kids -- for 90 days. Well, they put that to rest for him right away! OTR drivers don't have to wait 90 days, we should have insurance next week! Omigosh, I was floored to learn that !!! Somebody in management at the DC told him, "Oh, drivers are like management -- you get stuff when WE get it."
    :yes2557:

They also told him about another cool benefit. I don't know what the qualifying factors are, but I'm sure we will find out soon. Brian is going to need a knee replacement before too many more years, and they were telling him about this. (I can't remember the names of all the hospitals in this group, but they're the finest nationwide, such as Mayo Clinic.) When the time comes, they will fly Brian AND me to the nearest facility and put us up at a nearby hotel, including our meals. He will have his surgery -- 3-day hospitalization, I believe. Then he will rejoin me at the hotel. They will keep us both there for the entire six (6) weeks he will be receiving physical therapy.
NOW GET THIS: ALL OF THE ABOVE AT ABSOLUTELY ZERO COST TO US !!!

I think that we all need to drink some more of that Walmart Kool Ade -- make mine a double!
    Peace and Love.

Debra, just to show what you are feeling now is something other spouses and drivers here have experienced, I invite you to refer to post # 881 (made by my wife using my user name) and post # 898 (made by Gloria aka WallyWife). That is why we are happy for you and Brian because it is like Déjà vu to us here. Brian will feel more "peace and love" and as time goes on he may find himself wondering why he wasn't here sooner! :)

Insurance benefits are effective from day one, which was Brian's first day of orientation. It will be the end of next week when payroll is processed before you are entered into the system, but your insurance is effective right now. In the event you should need medical/dental/vision treatment in the next few weeks before receiving your insurance cards, call the Walmart Benefits Team at 800-421-1362 and they will assist you with insurance verification.

Meh, who cares???? So what you're back to work. Nice of you to join the rest of us out here...... Hope all is smooth sailing for you Tom. Was thinking of putting in an app, but I believe the nearest DC to me is Hermiston, OR. Not too sure what's near Spokane. Anyways, good to see you're getting back on the road. Be safe!

    Hey, how you been doing!

Hermiston and Grandview WA are he only DC's I know of closest to Spokane. Because of how rural that part of the country is, the DC's are spread further out, which is actually a good thing because the average length of haul for the trips is much longer.

Hmm, that is usually done on the first day of orientation, though you do not need to make any official benefit choices until he receives his first paycheck on March 12th. Regardless, unless Brian was to choose to not take any of the medical benefits, he is technically covered by Walmart's insurance even though it has not been processed yet. I am just telling you this in the event a medical/dental emergency were to arise to not panic about not having coverage. Brian should have been given an Associates benefit handbook during orientation that lists all the available benefit plans to choose from.
