this may explain why the guards didn't defend the truck or themselves. ;)

The guards got complacent and stupid. Seems to be pretty commonplace. I remember when I was on the road in 2011, had a shower at a Petro in Kansas.. I went outside to have a cigarette as the armored car service was doing their thing.. one guard was inside, and the other was outside, having a cigarette. I walked around the guy, stood in a spot where his back was turned towards me the whole time, pulled out my pack of smokes and lighter, put them back, finished my cigarette... all of this before the guy even gave a single glance my way.... I might also mention that I was packing an XD45 concealed (legally).
I don't really expect these two ########## to have been any smarter about it. They probably stopped, stood next to each other, didn't take up any sort of defensive position when approached by the van... this is why I never took any interest in armed security work after the military... not when my life's on the line and dependent upon the sorts of "professionals" these firms often hire.

All throughout history, gold has often brought the worst of human nature out of many different types of people. This also has held true with silver, diamonds, and various other precious gems and metals.

This is deffinately an inside job.Gunman was following these guards and probably did something to their trk so they would have to stop. But the main thing is those guards were unharmed.

A company I once worked for, specialized in cigs and booze hauling. We were told, to never talk to anyone about our loads, and that in of itself would be common sense. We did have a driver that lived in the Danville area of VA, (my former employer was in Richmond), and as a result, he was allowed to take the rig and cargo home with him.

He gets "hijacked" on his way up here to MASS. He liked to "talk a lot" and as such, became suspect #1.

Funny how just BEFORE this guy was "hijacked", he had bought himself a brand new car, when he was consistently saying how he could not afford one, and had bad credit.

Ever wonder how the FBI suspected him first?

    He got formally arrested.

There are some that are diligent in keeping quiet, then there are some that shoot off thier mouths.

The Feds got what they deserve here. No doubt the driver had to pull over to regen. Send the bill to the EPA.

I know what you're saying, and I understand why you are saying it. But see, you have a good name. $4 mil sounds like a lot of money, but it's not worth the name that you've made for yourself. Just ask OJ Simpson about the value of a name.
