That's a good picture of the future.

I was in Toledo, OH a year ago and saw an International or Freightliner comeing down the track with some of those trailer/cars behind it.
It had guide trucks in front of the stears and behind the last drive as I remember, but it was pulling about 10 or 12 of them down the track.

You know what this means don't you boys and girls???

We have to buy stripped hats and bib overhauls to work in those trucks.

Thanks, Desert. Another poster mentioned a photo-shop doctoring job, and the pic does look kinda fishy. The box looks rather flimsy to be one of those heavy-duty jobs. But I guess if the pics the real deal, then that is indeed what it is.

I gave up my own Pete 'cause I wasn't making any money and went to work for Swift. I spent 4 months at Swift out of the Phoenix terminal. Their on-site school turned out 100's of drivers a week. How good could they be? I guess I was lucky, I got a brand new truck(20,000 miles). I was impressed with their maintenance program but not with their dispatchers. I pulled flatbed and was mostly running between LA & Phoenix. Try making any money like that-3 or 4 trips at 375 miles each per week. I left and went back to O/O.

Hi my name is Amanda and my husband is seriously considering Swift as his company to go with, going through the training and then working for Swift. My question is Swift is it a good company to work for, or is he just going to set his self back by working there.... you seemed to know quite alot from your post so i just thought I would ask you. Thanks:biggrin_2559:

Amanda, Swift is like any other starter company. You cut your teeth as a new driver, get a year or two of experience and then move to a smaller company that pays better. There will be good and bad things about EVERY starter company. The reason I chose Swift for training was that the $3,900 for school is interest free. I was paying the school back each week while I worked for Swift. I left the company before paying all the school money back and with one phone call to them I set up a $75 a month payment to pay the rest off.

I am coming back to work for them soon. Not the greatest company, but like I said...it's a starter company. That being said, they do have plenty of drivers who have been with them for years. It is what you make it.

Expect your husband to be earning $250-$400 dollar per week pay checks the first three months he is in his own truck. After he proves he will run they will get him more miles.

Swift, Werner, USA Truck, JB Hunt, etc etc...they all have horror stories and happy endings. By my experience I'd go with Swift.

swift is one of the worst ones out there...but you gotta start some where none of the starter companies are all that great...but if your hubby is smart he might wanna look at tmc and do flat bedding instead of dry van or reffer...more money better miles and keeps him in shape thats real trucking...tmc is not a really bad company ive never driven for them but from what ive heard from the drivers its a decent company to start out with.....and the few traniers ive come in contact with actually can drive...so amanda i would suggest having your hubby look into working at a place like that....western express is another great starter company...i work at western its a great place to work....and im getting excellent pay and miles...

Opinions are like Chevies...everyone has one. Have you ever worked for Swift or are you just adding to the hate by repeating what everyone else is saying? If you haven't worked for a company, then you really have no idea what a company is like and you would do well to keep your opinions to yourself. As an example, I did work with TMC for 2 weeks. The trainer was a nice guy for sure, but really was a poor trainer. At the end of those two weeks, I could actually back the truck better than he could. As a company, I felt they really weren't too bad, but the rumor has it they are in trouble and that is all I will say about that.

I have been with Swift for 3 months now and so far it has been a great experience. I've had no problems with my pay being short, being forced to run illegal, or any of those other complaints you hear about. In fact, the couple issues I had with my pay was actually my fault and was quickly resolved. Granted, the cents per mile isn't that great to start out, but it is a start, and so far, my miles have been pretty good.

When I first started looking at getting into this, I too read all the stuff about Swift and felt I didn't want to drive for them. After doing a bit more research, I discovered that EVERYTHING that has been said about Swift has also been said about EVERY other company out there, including Western Express. Based on that, one could argue that WE is one of the worst companies out there and one to be avoided.

The truth is, there is no perfect company. Every company will and does have some issues. Mostly it's all human nature. Somebody someday will have a bad day and just pass it on. It's all about how you deal with situations. If you handle it well, everything will turn out well. If you yell, piss and moan, things won't turn out very well. Swift can't be really that bad of a company to have so many drivers on the road and many of them have been there for many years.

To paraphrase Hookem, "if your hubby is smart, he'll sign on with Swift, make some money, enjoy himself, and avoid TMC at all cost." But that is just my opinion based on PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

Came to use Swift as a starter company myself. But three years later, I found out that I still love it here and would have to be fired before I quit. I actually enjoy going back to work every Monday.

Freight is good right now, I went thru the academy in San Antonio, six weeks with the mentor etc... My first paycheck solo is net 552, this week is going to be about the same. They have kept to every thing they told me, nothing to complain about yet..... I do like it here so far, and as its been said, it is what you make of it, and the attitude you bring in the door with you..... Just DONt expect the Qualcomm directions to shippers and recievers to be accurate LOL....BigT
