The work is fine, I'm having trouble with adapting to the equipment more then anything else, don't get me wrong I can and will do it already partially have. The delivering isn't a big deal the dry goods are fine and over all it's not a bad job I rather like it. However you know how it is, new guy new job new equipment so on and so fourth.

OMG, a regular route (or even doing the same route twice in a row) makes ALL the difference in the world. It was a real eye opener about 2 months in when I got the exact same routes two weeks in a row. DRAMATICALLY easier. It was like "oh, I can do this job" where before that I was really wondering.

Yup, I felt the same way. Didn't think I was doing a good job. I'm far from a lazy person. Was on extra board getting full trucks and crap load of stops. Was taking me 14hrs and a layover on average. Then I got forced on a bid and I can do a 600 case night with 12-14 stops in 8-10hrs 900-1000 case in about 12hrs. Ahead of the schedule by 1 hr. Which the scheduling delivery times wasn't very realistic. Went from 50-60hrs a week to 40-45hrs. I would have to drag my feet to get 45hrs. Once you get route no matter how crappy it is it's easier when you know where your going and what they get. Saves a lot of time. Big difference.

    Hey guys,
What's the average age of drivers there, about? I'm 48, in probably above average shape for my age ... wondering if this is something I could handle longterm. I really want a home daily driving job...

Well a lot of the guys who work where I started have multiple years. GFS does pull a lot of doubles so you may very well be able to get a job as a transite driver although generally you have to work up to that.

The trailers are floor loaded and some things are heavy 6 cans, meat, chicken oil.

However some things are also light, bread, chips, dry goods.

Cooler is a mixed bag I came from beer so I'm used to heavy things. I think you could do it.

Don't know how it is for GFS but at the company I worked for the stuff was heavy, bales of flour, etc. Anyone there over 10 years was starting to have permanent pain, people longer than 15 years getting knee and hip replacements. But they stay because the pay is so good and you're home every night. I choose health over pay so I got out before the surgeries start. (I do miss it sometimes strangely enough).

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

    I'm 47
almost everyone at my center is in their 40's I'd guess., the youngest person I've met is 31.

I was like you wondering if it could be done and yet most of the guys are average guys.

There are ### kicker days, but after a while it becomes just work. (and lots of young guys don't really know HOW to work.). it's about working smart with throwing boxes and stacking two wheelers.

    Mike2633 and plankton Thank this.
