OK... Rookie driver - replacing my tractor gland hand seals for the first time.
a mechanic on a U tube piece said to install the seal with big end inside the glad hand first, which I did. The
ones I removed were opposite - small side mounted inside the gland hand ... as are the ones on the trailer.
When you mount the big side in first, this leaves the smaller, but thicker side to make contact with the opposite
glad hand. The ones I removed had the larger, but thinner side outside to make contact - the seal goes to the edge of the
glad hand.
The way demonstrated leaves the smaller, thicker side to make contact - leaving about a 1/4 " to the edge of the glad hand.
hmmmmm...
How are the experienced drivers mounting these puppies ?

I like the type of gladhand seal shown on the left side of this picture... Way less likely to leak. Especially when trailers changed frequently there is almost no need to double check a red hose connection -
You know. That's not a dumb question in the least.
From my testing they will work fine either way.
But I've always put the bigger end in the glad hand with the smaller donut part sticking out.
It protrudes out more for better seal.
I guess it could just come down to trial & error on what you like best. -
Thanks guys ... I'm going to stick with the smaller side out as I like the thicker part to make the contact...

I've never seen the type on the left... I'll keep an eye out

SONOFAGUN!
According to him I've been doing it wrong. -
LOL!
I tried using the neoprene ones and thought they were junk because they kept falling out, now i know i was installing them wrong! -
WTF? Ive never had a problem with this. They never pop out the right way. He must get some crap cheap seals. I only use the ones with the stainless steel screen, to keep the bugs out when unhooked. The purpose of the larger seal face is to extend the seal surface area. If yours dont seal that way, your glad hands need to be replaced.rank Thanks this.

LOL I know Cetane. I've never had one come out either. And the "wrong" way is a heckuva lot faster I bet. Notice how the video was cut and edited as he was "finessing" it in there. Prolly took a half and hour and some cussing. Good post though. Thanks to the OP!Cetane+ Thanks this.
