When I had to drive late: loud music, caffeine, and cold air. Run the A/C. The heater will make you want to sleep.

But best to work for a company that rarely makes you pull those all-nighters if you like to sleep at night.

Besides the obvious of getting enough sleep? I drive at night regularly, and the best thing that's worked for me is to get on the phone (always with a headset...safety first!) with one of my coworkers, and talk as long as you need to. A conversation helps keep my mind active and alert, and helps to make the long stretches fly by.

After sunflower seeds begain failing I used to pour a little bottled water on my head. It worked for a few months...then it just became annoying.

Screaming at the top of your lungs could also work too. I feel embarassed when I do that even when I am just by myself and nobody can hear me.

Roll down your window and stick your head outside and scream loudly when you are desperate to stay awake.

Singing to the radio beat at the top of your lungs... slap your face during commercials.

Rolling the window down, turning on the dome light, a vigorous back scratch with my back scratcher, plucking nose hairs.

Hire a cat to use your leg as a scratching post!

Cold air makes me want to sleep. So when I get the need to use air to keep me awake, its hot air...but if I get that bad to need air or loud music I pull over.
