I'm hoping it's not something very serious like piston slap.

Well start it up and watch the oil psi, i doubt its piston slap, most likley a rod bearing.

At least it's nice to know it may not be an expensive fix.

What is your 3406e in 550hpW900L?

When did you ever get out of a Cat dealer without paying at least 2 grand?

Boy did I stir up a can of worms here!:biggrin_2554:

Thanks guys, I was looking for an idea what it would cost me for a bearing roll by anyone who has had it done before.

I like to look here first to get info from people who are out there doing it.

    Not THAT "it"!

Let me clarify, you will not do ALL of the mains for $500.00. I don't care who you know or who you are. You can't do it yourself for that.

I saw prices for main bearings at around $130. I'm assuming that's each bearing?

My buddy owns a shop and is CAT certified, he still does rod and mains for $500 plus parts. Maybe you can go to a normal shop and get it done cheaper, it aint rocket science, unless you want the CAT warranty, as far as trust goes, i dont know i have seen some hackers working at CAT.

I'm a little leery of dealerships. I need a shop that is qualified to do the job right.
