My RPM gauge won't work. Please help!

Not sure about the Cummins, but my Cat runs the tach off the flywheel sensor. I replaced that a couple of years ago when it failed. As for engine damage, if the failed tach is the entire problem with nothing underlying, then quit worrying and run the truck. Pay attention to the engine and don't lug it.

 

I ran with a broken Tach on my 2001 Cat C15 for almost a month. It went out on a load I was running to Portland OR. The dealer said it wouldn't hurt anything, so I ran with it until I got back home to my local shop. In my case it was a mechanical piece inside the tach,...... nothing on the electronic side.

With the amount of time you have driving, It would surprise me that you still look at it while shifting.

No he asked a question and had it answered. Several times. Had a couple of opinions thrown in too. Nothing wrong there.

 

If he has been driving as long as he claims, he would not have even asked the question.

 

I don't fault him for asking. He drives a Volvo. I drive a Volvo. So many of the Volvo systems are multiplexed you would have legit concerns that something malfunctioning could be a sign of impending doom.

 

What are you a 12 year old leftist? Quit crying it's called man up and take the ########, I feel like if you're gonna be a truck driver you should be some what mechanically inclined and not just be a steering wheel holder. Mentality of new drivers is if truck has a problem Im gonna make a phone call and be out of work for a week over a 5 minute fix
