The bigger problem, and one of the reasons for the change, wasn't so much forged med cards, it was carrying multiple med cards with good dates given by different providers, even if a driver has a more recent failed or reduced med card. Right now, for example, I have three seemingly valid med cards, any one of which could be shown. However, the Michigan Secretarty of State has only one valid exam on file. That's why the cards aren't so good.
socal Thanks this. -
Same here...just got a level II in Knox, PA at the eastbound scale house and they didn't even ask to see it. They know now by running your license whether you are self certified with the state.

Looking at the eCFR site, I see you are using an out-dated reference. Here is the current one:
ELECTRONIC CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS

e-CFR Data is current as of March 5, 2015
Title 49: Transportation
PART 391QUALIFICATIONS OF DRIVERS AND LONGER COMBINATION VEHICLE (LCV) DRIVER INSTRUCTORS
Subpart EPhysical Qualifications and Examinations
§391.41 Physical qualifications for drivers.
(a)(1)(i) A person subject to this part must not operate a commercial motor vehicle unless he or she is medically certified as physically qualified to do so, and, except as provided in paragraph (a)(2) of this section, when on-duty has on his or her person the original, or a copy, of a current medical examiner's certificate that he or she is physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle.
(2) CDL/CLP exception. (i) Beginning January 30, 2015, a driver required to have a commercial driver's license under part 383 of this chapter, and who submitted a current medical examiner's certificate to the State in accordance with §383.71(h) of this chapter documenting that he or she meets the physical qualification requirements of this part, no longer needs to carry on his or her person the medical examiner's certificate specified at §391.43(h), or a copy for more than 15 days after the date it was issued as valid proof of medical certification.
My reading of the relevant highlighted section is that carrying "the original, or a copy, of a current medical examiner's certificate" is still required when on duty operating a CMV for 15 days. You may not have to present it, but you might.Last edited: Mar 9, 2015
