2600 miles for the week. Not bad at all considering the weather I guess.
-
How many miles do you average during the summer? I have 6 months OTR experience, would they require that I go out with a trainer?
-
Less than a year exp, i believe you need to go with a trainer for 8 weeks..they tell you average 2250 but it depends on you and how you run and manage hours..usually 2400-2600 year round is normal. Not to say you won't get an occasional 1800 or an occasional 3200.

I WISH!!!
I'm around 2000 almost every week! But that's because my dispatcher SUCKS!! But with a GOOD dispatcher 2300 is a pretty good average. Your dispatcher will make all the difference. The miles are there all year long.

Miles was crappy and hometime was crappy! A lot of downtime between loads. Gregg Diehl was my DM (aka Dispatch). I spoke to upper management several times to switch to another board but It seem that they wanted me to deal with that pr**ck. Just sharing my experience with CT. I'm fed up with these people on this thread glorifying the hell out of this ###### ### micromanaging company!!

As someone who has been in and around this industry since 1992 I will say this.
Overall CT is a good company. They pay well. Especially for people who are just starting out. You will not go ANY WHERE else and make 39 cents per mile with no experience. They give 3 great bonuses per year and their other benefits are pretty descent. Now it might sound like I'm cheer leading for them but I'm not. There is also a down side to CT. Some of the dispatchers leave a lot to be desired. Don't get me wrong, Most of them I think are descent. But there are a few who should NOT be in their positions. I'll be totally honest here, MY dispatcher is a total screw up. He does not communicate well at all. I have too many weeks of low miles with too many short runs. I get jumped on for being late on a delivery when HE dispatched it late to begin with!
Example..... I asked this MONDAY to be home FRIDAY. Didn't matter when on Friday as long as it was Friday because the wife and I wanted to hit the Flea Market Saturday morning. Thursday at 3pm he sends me to Maryland. Fine. Then Friday morning My back haul is leaving Baltimore at 6pm! How in the hell do you think I'm driving 468 Miles to drop then 85 miles home dealing with BOTH Baltimore and D.C. traffic? I got home at 8am Saturday morning!
Example.... Got a new cell phone. Gave him the number over the phone AND sent him the new number over the Qcom. The next week he's going off because he's been trying to call me and I never gave him my number. I could ask for an advance on my Comdata, With my old dispatcher I get a message (ON CARD) 5 mins later. Now? I have no clue if it's on there or not. Lots of times it's not and he's gone for the day so I'm waiting until the next day to ask for it AGAIN!
Unfortunately These kinds of problems are easy to fix but are not. MOST drivers I talk to get good miles and like their dispatcher. The problem seems to stem from having a few that sucks and the company allowing it to continue by leaving them in place. I honestly can say I have never heard ONE driver say they like my dispatcher. But as anyone who has been in this industry long enough can tell you, these problems are NOT exclusive to CT. These problems happen at most carriers and some times on a much larger scale. The day Cargo Transporters addresses this issue and actually DOES something about it, Is the day CT becomes a MUCH better place to work!
RACEFAN Thanks this. -
Wow! Sounds like the same thing I went through when I drove for CT. I got that same treatment when I was there. Did you try talking to Luke At the Claremont yard about that? He's the Dispatchers Boss. Shortly before I left, I found out he used to be a fleet manager so 9 times out of 10 he's gonna stick up for his dispatchers before the drivers. I'm telling you. I seriously got fed up with their ####!! Driving for CT was one of the biggest mistake of my life!!
