The headquarters are in Conover (Hickory) NC, though they have terminals in the Baltimore area, Indianapolis, Dallas/Ft Worth area and some where in California. We do LTL furniture delivery to stores. They also have a home delivery division though I know nothing about it other than that it exists.
They pay actual miles, pay starts at .355 a mile, if you drive over 2,000 miles a week the CPM rate goes up ( I can't remember for sure, but I think its .08 more). We get stop pay that starts at $8 a stop, pay if we unload or load our loads (almost all loads are driver assist), pay if we pick up a back haul, pay for every time we drop/hook, layover pay for every night on the road after the first night. We get reimbursed for motels if we choose to stay in them. I typically do if I am taking a break that is longer than 10 hours (many furniture stores are only open 9-4), they reimburse promptly for everything else as well including parking and showers (something that my previous employer did not reimburse).
The company owned trucks run between 75-78mph, trucks leased from Penske have to stay at 70mph. They use qualcom electronic logs in the trucks. They don't nit pick about idling, they prefer that we fuel at Pilot/Flying J if we need fuel, though we are able to fuel any where that Comdata is accepted if we need fuel. Most of the company owned trucks have a 400-500 gallon capacity so fueling isn't always necessary on the road. At the conover terminal trucks are washed, fueled, and inspected between every trip. They also keep a close eye on trailers as well.
Compared to my previous employer we are given a lot of "freedom" to make decisions on the job, make deliveries out of order if need be, as well as many other things that are micro managed by most carriers.
The CPM rate is low, but last week I only got 2100 miles and made FAR more than I every did at my previous employer where I made .41cpm.

Experience level required? How close to the terminal do you have to live?

Yeah it is far. Most of you couch and sofa guys require 3 years. I worked at a furniture store taking ltl deliveries. Nothing like me and a driver unloading overpriced furniture at 11 in the morning in NC humidity. I'm planning on moving to central NC next year. No good trucking jobs where I'm at with good home time/pay.
