Doing a little research on possibly doin a glider kit with a c12. Turns out that there is no less than 4 C12 models. Who'da thunk it? From what I've read here, cooling system upgrades and cam followers need attention. Is one model better than the others? Anything else to watch for? Thanks in advance

Well so far, I've discovered that the C12 weighs 1020 pounds less than the C15. So for those looking for a lightweight option, perhaps the C12 might be a viable option. I know it ain't for everybody, but if weight is a concern, maybe.

the one that has mb on it. I think it has same developments like mbn c15. It's a counterpart of detroit 12.7. They are good for fuel mileage. Most would advice to have 13 sp, just to be on a game with speed and mpg. Max hp rating is 430 hp and 1650 ft lb.

C12 was a good little engine....lightweight internals = quicker than expected acceleration. Their big downfall was the fragile, and I do mean fragile piston skirts (articulated pistons). Don't ever, I mean ever use ether on them or it will only speed up a potential catastrophe. We used to recommend replacing skirts around 500k if a guy planned to keep it, especially if he didn't purchase it new. 2KS were common and plentiful if memory serves me correct. Easy to work on, lightweight and pound-for-pound a good engine.

Never knew that about the pistons, very helpful information. Were all 4 versions equipped with those sketchy skirts? Who makes replacement/alternative pistons?

Update. Just discovered that there are 5 versions. Here they are :
1YN - 1995 / 9NS - 1998 / 2KS - 1-39999 - 1999 / 2KS - 40000-up - 2000 / MBL (bridge) - 2002 -
2ks is what we I think we had, the last year was around 2002, our trucks were 03's but built in late 02, and they were decent, not as many head gasket issues as the earlier ones, as mentioned cam followers can be an issue. Also watch out for water pumps leaking, they have a tendency of the weep holes plugging up and then the water pours into your oil pan, had a driver NOT paying attention, never noticed oil pressure dropping and took out the bearings. -
N e one have n e knowledge abt theC-10 motors? I have one in an 03 T800, plan to pump it up to 430hp from 335hp
