ok I posted some threads on here before, I went to school 3yrs ago and got a class A. after I graduated my school didn't help me find a job so I had to find one myself.. at the time I was 50/50 about starting otr so, I decided not to. I wanted something local so I tried applying at tractor trailer local jobs but didn't hire me so I applied at a bus transit company and they hired me so I been working there close to 3 yrs now driving bus.
so my question is if I wanted to fully start otr do I have to go to school again? or can I go to swift or somewhere to train me? or can I use my 3yrs of driving the bus to get a tractor trailer job somewhere?, but I doubt it cause a bus is a whole lot different then a tractor trailer

I'm not 100% sure...some companies do refresher courses I've heard, but which ones exactly I don't know

Western Express will put you with a trainer, which you need to help you transisssition into pulling a 53' trailer.

Typically, buses do not bend in the middle, unless one slams into a pole. Then they become scrape metal. As for wanting to go OTR, you very well WILL HAVE TO go back to school, either on your dime or they will pay for it at their school and take it out of your pay till it is paid off. But then too, you will be signing a contract for x number of months for employment.
Personally what I would do is, if the bus company is paying you good wages, and you are home daily, and you have good to great benefits, then why leave?
Right now, your personal life must be doing good?
If so, why screw that up for a life of inconvenience on the road?
SO if you want to go OTR, then yeah, be prepared to almost "basically" start out as a rookie all over again. DO you really want to start at the bottom all over again? -
A life of inconvenience on the road..that putting it mildly..more like a life a complete misery..Well it was for me anyway..

Contact Earl Henderson Trucking Co. They may send you to their training program in Illinois and provide hotel room and 3 meals a day.
Celadon has the same deal. -
Should i just keep my classA license or just go down to a B class?,,, honestly im getting a lil burnt out and a city driver deal wit all sorts of ppl... so i will mostly likely go otr in the near future
-
I was thinking swift.. you think they will take me?
-
Yes. You should get rid of your class A and downgrade to a B!
-
If you got the class A, why demote it to a B? Keep it, and if whatever company hires you, explain your circumstances and they will tell you if you need to back to school or just do a refresher.
