Besides they have the absolute crappiest equipment on the road here, don't get over time until 55 hours, and work the dock EVERYDAY, even line haul drivers. That was enough for me to say no.

 

I worked for Central in the 80's, when they were still Teamster, and they sucked back then. My brother drove a linehaul for them a few years ago, nothing but headaches.

These guys are right I recently got offered a job from them. No OT until 55hrs. And $15 an hr No thanks...

 

Let me add that the yard here in Florida did have newer power units..

 

It all depends on the quality of your TM whether the job is survivable or not...Its good solid work for sure, I worked WAY more than I wanted to, always 14 bubba...I walked off last week...Small terminal, testing bed for new TM's, last new TM pushed me over the cliff

I was 'in' with graveyard dispatching, so if i broke down, Id have my meet driver sent further towards me so my night wouldnt be blown, pick trailers I wanted, etc etc...So be nice to michigan...

I only know about Tucson/Phoenix/Rialto/el paso......

I currently work at Central as a linehaul driver. Been here 4 months. It is a great place to START your LTL career if you have no experience like myself. But like others said, unless you get hired at a big city terminal, the smaller terminals have 10+ year old trucks with close to a million miles on them. They are very hard on your body. They just purchased a bunch of 2015's but you have to be there 5 years or more to get one or work at a bigger terminal. The job itself is very easy. I usually work 8 PM to 8 AM Monday thru Friday nights. Always off weekends. Everyone has to work the dock. You start at $21 an hour to work the dock, can make up to $24 after 2 years. Loads are paid by flat rate. I generally make $200-$250 a night depending on how long I work the dock and where I take my load. I gross $1000-$1200 a week. Health insurance kinda sucks. No union here. Overall, after I get my 2 years in, I may stay, or may leave. Just depends on how I feel physically, and if my job stays the way it is now. I'm one of those guys who comes in and doesn't say much. Just do my job and go home. There are others who love to complain and whine about everything. Central is again, a great place to begin your LTL career. I wouldn't want to do P+D here though, it is chaos. You run around like a chicken with its head cut off. And nothing seems organized on P+D. Linehaul is so much better and easier. Yeah working midtnights sucks, but I can recover on the weekends. This company is not as bad as some make it out to be. I've seen worse trust me.

 

I forgot to mention the P+D guys are paid strictly hourly at around $19-$20 an hour and yes, you make OT after 55 hours for the week (this is not a company thing, but rather a federally mandated law that many drivers do not know about). I guess DOT is trying to encourage drivers to drive less hours during the week so they aren't as tired? Who knows. P+D will sometimes have to work Saturday mornings to help the linehaul guys unload freight, but that is on a rotating schedule based on seniority. They asked me to go on days last week and I said hell no lol.
