Regards to all my beloved TransAm thread fun seekers! Back in Thailand now, wish you all were here!

I have done a little over 18months as a TransAm company driver. I think the posts above by Cranky, George and Jaso have it right.

Almost no reason to join TransAm if you have a clean driving, criminal, employment history record. Just better choices out there. TransAm is a good place if you have some type of problem in those areas. At best, TransAm could be looked at as a place that gives someone with a problem a second chance at gaining experience. At worst, TransAm could be looked at as exploiting people, asking them to do unreasonable things, unpaid because they have few choices but to agree.

TransAm operates under a lease business model. They want lease drivers. They keep a certain number of company drivers around to do the things (short hauls, multi-stops, swaps) that lease drivers will have a problem doing.

Many lease drivers fail. The ones that stick it out will end up netting about .25 or less per mile. Low rates by industry standards but they do get a good quantity of miles to run to make up for it. It is not all gloom and doom for company drivers, you will be ask to do unfair things like sit around, unpaid, babysitting problem loads, etc. but you will get good, fair runs also. You can make a decent paycheck as a company driver if you have a good attitude to take your share of lumps and go with the flow.

So much of how it works out with TransAm will depend on who you have as a Driver Manager. TA did a shake up in operations last year and lost many good, experienced, Driver Managers. My first year with TransAm, I had a good experience. After the shakeup, things went downhill.

The bright ones, keep their good attitude, get the needed experience to over come the problem in their record. Ones like me stick around too long, get ground down and end up a bit disgruntled or disgruntledish. A smattering of disgruntled like feelings. I don't know, I still kind of like TransAm, I wanted to like them, I just got frustrated with them too often.

 

I'm in Kingdom City, MO for the night and popped in to make sure everyone is alive and not in jail. I'm on a load going to East Point GA for Monday morning but I'm bumping my 70. After I get hours back at midnight I will only have 8 hours to work with tomorrow so won't be able to go as far as I wanted. I will make do with it. Haven't been home in a month and don't go home til April 9 but hubby bought our Avett Brothers tickets yesterday so I'm super stoked. The weather has been amazing from South Dakota to Missouri. Yesterday I was surprised that I ended up delivering at an actual NAPA auto parts store for my third and final stop. Had to park on the street and they unloaded me with a pallet jack and forklift.

 

Oh, wulfman! I am so sorry that you got your stuff stolen! Were you at a truck stop? Which one?

Ya'll the Queen is on the warpath and about to kick someone's big posterior up and down the Main Street of this little town. It will be painful for them and for me .... Moment of truth here, the other day when I fell it was on my messed up leg and I fractured my foot ...again. I will persevere and they will suffer, so be gathering up some bail money, please. The woman that owns the restaurant Number One Daughter went to work for smacked my kid for carrying a plate in the wrong hand.

 

Oh how I've missed passport and his clear headed thinking. He has given you TA and the way they operate, in one clear, concise, short post. Anybody interested in TA needs to print that out and keep it close by. Taped to your forehead might, and I only say might...... work!!

HTQ, remember.... you have kids to raise, no need to go to prison!!!! Kind of disappointed, that you didn't tell me about your @@@, oh, excuse me.... your foot earlier!!!

 

That is crazy! I will have to convert Thai baht back into USD, but I got your back as far as bail money. In the end, no jury in the world will convict you for doing what should be done.

Thank god your child was raised right and knew to tell someone instead of accepting that an adult could act that way. I feel extra bad that this occurred during your child's first steps into the working world.

 

From the casual way you wrote it, I guess I missed it that you got robbed! Sorry that happened to you buddy. Texas Lawmen used to have some kind of reputation at one point in time. I guess those days are over because large parts of Big D are just out of hand!

 

HTQ sorry to hear about your foot and what happened to your daughter , that is total BS. I would call the police.

Wulfman sorry to hear about your troubles , did they just break in and steal your stuff or was it a robbery like Passport , did they have a gun ? Confused

 

Thanks. I am livid. I have already called the mayor and told her to tell the chief that I will go quietly .....after I am finished with that woman! My daughter is shy and pretty quiet. She is a hard worker and will do whatever you ask of her but she has never worked for a business before. The King is home and they are not going to like it if they have to deal with him .....I might need bail money for two.

 

I didn't tell you because I hadn't told the King yet ....didn't want him worrying while he was out there driving.
dennisroc, I am considering calling the chief ....he may already know about it since I talked to the mayor. We plan on sleeping on it and then going from there. Your first instinct is to do bodily harm to the person that put their hands on your little girl.

 

I agree HTQ , my first instinct would be to go kick someone's #####. So sad she had to deal with an idiot on her first taste of being a working woman. I am sure all will be ok because you and your children are a lot more mature and understanding than the trouble maker. GRRRRR
