contribute it to the strike on the west coast. the ports are packed full of containers and ships. a lot of big corporations have been sending out letters to get their crap straightened out. inventory is 8 months behind. some of the smaller mom and pops have been flying their cargo in and shipping on train.

    add to the fact.

that oil has laid of 1000's of workers. which equates to less pipe being hauled.

put them 2 facts together, and you've got tons more trucks then normal looking for freight to haul.

throw in the cheaper fuel. and it's easy to see why rates are in the toilet.

Thank you! Im actually pulling a 53 part time/ seasonal delivering live plants right now. Im to the point where I just have a small brace that fits in my work boot to keep from turning that ankle, ribs are pretty much healed.
I will be looking for something to do around June first. I don’t think its wise to go back to the woods till fully healed.

snowwy thank you, and thats just more confirmation about the sad shape the oilfields are in. Some folks around here let the banks have their homes and headed to the oilfields as a last resort, this has to be devastating to someone with a family and only a couple years in ND!
The end of the driver shortage is now I suppose.

Steel should pick up in the next 2 or 3 weeks. It's always this way this time of year. I haul lots of steel between OH/PA and SC/NC and back again. I just did a check for Nucor out of Huger, SC and nothing yet. That's a good indication when it picks up. There will be non stop loads going back to OH/PA. Most are 40 and 50 I-Beams used for the frame of a mobile home.

I thought I read somewhere that there was a slowdown on steel going out of Gary.

Two of the three contractors that I've delivered equipment to in the last couple weeks have complained that there is so much work out there they can't get sub's. Guy I talked to yesterday figures they are going to have to do some of their own concrete work etc..

Another problem is the big buying boom of scrap from a couple years ago is catching up to us. All that scrap that China bought is starting to make it's way back onto the market as cheap Chinese Steel. I've also run into permitting issues with one of my customers, Ohio recently changed it's laws so that you can haul skidded coils within a 150 mile radius of the shipper up to 120K total gross no limit on coils.

Yea, I'm staying steady I guess. It's just not to the volume it should be for March. Just wanted to get a feel for how everyone else see's it.

I been hauling dies and molds for the past year and a half and right now no one knows why it is slow but it is. on average I'm moving 30k a day, today I had 16k on the truck and tomorrow I am sitting at home. The weeks total was about 230k, which is down for me at this time of year.
