That my friend is true, especially in flatbed. I would ask other older guys regular how they would tie a load of this or that.
Some will tell you, others are hesitant to do so because of liability. If any thing bad happened a driver might try to blame it on them. -
Got back from another run to Moab (16" X 60' 6" coated pipe) and I picked up a load of Mobile home tires to drop off in San Jacinto on Monday.

This was a pain in the rear to secure, I was a "monkey" climbing up and down those tubes.

Holly crapola thats some load of tires! Ive never seen a load of tires like that, usually i see tires delivered in vans.

That's what I thought. I asked one of the hands from the company and he said they use flats all of the time. They were amazed at my flat because it was a 102" instead of what they usually see, 96'"

Headed to Portland tomorrow after getting a load in Corona at the 3M.
Back to the Pac-NW. I like it up there and everything from Redding north is just beautiful.
I'd like to tug the fifth wheel up there and camp for a whole month.
