Make sure the muffler bearings aren't loose
Make sure the spare transmission isn't missing
Check to make sure the windshield hasn't become too warped.

    simpleman78 and pattyj Thank this.

Don't the Volvos actually have the hood release handle under the dash?

    Mudguppy Thanks this.

To this day Schneider still sends me on goose chases trying to find empty trailers. Sometimes I wonder if the box planners all sit behind their computer screens and have a competition of "who can make a driver spend the most time looking for an empty trailer before they call in and totally lose it someone".

    Vilhiem Thanks this.

Huh. You learn something new every day. Volvos are the only trucks I've never had the occasion to drive. Okay, then how about-

Pull the dipstick to check the automatic transmission fluid (on stick shift trucks)

I dunno, that's all I got for now....

    dieselfuelonly Thanks this.

It's funny because a mechanic who was teaching me at the time did the exact opposite of this and told me to open the hood on a Volvo. I had never worked on one before and looked ALL over that darn truck trying to find where the hood latches were hidden before he finally told me to check the steering column LOL.

My first factory job out of high school, there was 3 of us working upstairs, for weeks they kept telling me to walk up to the shop and get a "pipe stretcher" I didn't because I thought there was no such thing,
an older feller told me the next time they ask, that I should go.
I went, the other 2 were working in the HEAT, while I was up at the shop bull-talking in the air conditioning, Sure they got their laugh.

    pattyj and simpleman78 Thank this.

Was rolling through Mississippi one day, heard a kid on the radio talking about everything he knows. 3rd gen driver, grandpa, his dad, and uncles were all drivers. He said he knew everything there was about trucking. He went into that eastbound weigh station on 59/20. There was a sign at the scale that said TURN OFF YOUR RADIO. Heard a voice on the CB.

As I was rolling through the scale, I could see the kid carrying his permit book and fire extinguisher. I LAUGHED SO HARD I WAS IN TEARS!
