Totally different planet down there, coming from a guy with my only other experience is in the oilfield, I was in for a rude awakening. We do regional food service, mainly Wendy's and popeyes. Anyways these city runs are turn and burn with a Co-driver, Illegal as #####, 28 hr run with no shut down and both of us humping freight the whole time. Only Break we had was a 2hr nap in times square next to where FOX News is filmed. Got 3 parking tickets there lol. Almost all of the other runs they use the 48's but since these city runs have such a high case count they sent us with 53. Wtf is that bs along with a 220wb truck in manhattan and queens. I do 3 of these runs a week. All the same places. Start in Harlem work my way down to midtown and over to jfk and Jamaica
They put a new stop on the run in queens and we ended up getting lost In the side streets off queens blvd. That was real nice trying to get on one of the av's trying to get back on the blvd. My biggest worry is keeping my license clean. Everyone I've talked to that does these turn and burn city runs has had an accident or 2. The only reason I'm at this job is b/c I'm only 21 and there less than 10mi from my house. I have a year and 5 months till im 23 then I'm gone, counting the days haha. Just pray to god I can keep a good csa score. Money's good but working conditions suck. We have e-logs but sometimes on these city runs they send out with a "broken" elog, like really you're gonna pull this kind of a stunt on us, I tell you it should be a rule you can't be a dispatcher unless you have previous driving exp.
ok my rants over, peace out

congrats on making it thru nyc . when I last delivered to Brooklyn off 39th street to jewish grocery stores. they unloaded me at each store with forklift and hook and chain. at time I was hauling no touch freight . they wanted me to hook each pallet was not doing that. that day I almost got hit at least 10 times getting in and out my truck. I had to park in the lane to get unloaded. I got cursed out several times caz I was blocking traffic. each of my 3 stops did not have a dock. yeap almost hit several cars because they were parked illegal. like you I got lost because I was trying to find the dock for store and had to make several tight right turns. Newark is just as bad as the 5 bourghs of nyc. I got lost there a few times and the docks are different there. having to maneuver a 53 is not easy in real tight spaces. HAPPY EARLY B-DAY!!!

I'LL be thinking of you as l roll across the CA/NV desert at night where I can drive 5,10 even 15 minutes without seeing any other vehicles..😉😉
Mike2633 and archangelic peon Thank this. -
One thing I'm not gonna do is quit. I promised myself I would stick it out till something better comes around. I don't wanna let my old man down. He started out when he was my age doing ltl around the 5 boroughs. Still beats them OTR wheel holders and their no touch freight
If you see a white Willow Run Foods truck in the city Give me a holler. I'm the one that still looks like hes 16 and hardly old enough to drive a 4 wheeler -
Ooops, simpleman78 and Grouch Thank this.

Actually when they get on their few times a year crack downs they don't BUT they key is you must be in direct route from Interstate hi way to your destination...federal laws require them to allow legal limit vehicles access on local roads from interstate..the Koch Adm....tried this and lost in court BUT the 53' nonsense still out there...most believe it&when ticketed jus pay it.....ive got over a dozen of them on Canal st alone when NYC DOT is workin the bridge...all it requires is a letter to the court..w/copies of signed&time dated bol w/clear address of destination&ticket is dismissed
