Yes, but the company assigned me to a Darth Vader Helmet tractor. It was a Peterblt cab over, and they were prone to catching fire. So I said why can't I just stay in my condo? They said for teams only. I said well why not the sit-in sleepers, they said none to give for several weeks till the new trucks come in and we have to give those sit-ins to the guys that have been in Darth Vader trucks, by seniority.
I said, ok, good bye. I flew home the next day myself. I wasn't about to be trapped in the Darth Vader truck if it caught fire. They even had a driver that tore out the entire interior of one, why, no one ever knew, and that one to was "available". SO why stay, when American Airlines was close by?
The Darth Vader Pete's looked like this..(by the way, the company I worked for had all white equipment, this might be a pic of a Weenie, and I never worked for those slugs)

Once upon a time, there was a young, know nothing, good for nothing punk who thought being a truck driver was the fastest, bestest way to make money without actually having to work for a living. He didn't die. The end.
texasbbqbest Thanks this. -
Don't blame you for getting outta there! Evidently you found something else better in the long run anyway!

Yeah, got a job with an o/o, on a 1099 which I will never do again. He had 2 trucks, and he would number them according to the dyno tests..(as to the speeds they could do)
1) 1992 Pete 379, condo sleeper, 15 speed, 425 CAT, #112
2) 1986 Western Star, condo sleeper 15 speed, 425 CAT, #108
Got paid crap, no benefits, but I was flying. -
YES!
Off I-70, Medway, OH!
I was on the dedicated JIT board for GM!
Long story about that, is I am from N.E., and when I went for training, I was teamed up with a driver on the board. Well they had NO people from N.E., so I had actually volunteered to stay out there, and on that board. Well finally a guy from about 4 miles from my house was in orientation, and the safety manager asked when I had been home. I said not since I got here 4 months ago!
Back in the day, you could smoke inside of buildings, and his cig fell out of his mouth. He knew there was a guy from my state, so he got him kicked out of his trainer truck, and we had to team, THEN I got home. Then Dave, had his panic attacks.
We were both still a team, on that JIT board, but I had asked to send us out west at least once, they did. Then Dave nearly had his heart attack(s) in those 2 incidents I spoke of.
But Dave was a mixed up guy.
1) he had a real estate license, (both parents had thier own companies)
2) he was a grad of Johnson and Wales Culinary school
3) he was a handyman at a beach club
4) he was salesman
His father-in-law said when he heard he wanted to be a trucker?
Is this one more thing you're going to do once before you quit? How are you going to support my daughter and grandkid?Last edited: Mar 25, 2015

Well, at least you got your condo sleeper right?
-
It's that last ditch effort thing again huh? Guess you never found out where that guy ended up? -
and then some.
Mass to Lemont, Il with tanker, empty, back to MASS with liquid mineral spirits
Or to some other location for GATX, for same type of load.
From MASS to Miami, 2 cars inside, furniture, and school supplies for Johnson and Wales colleges in SC and Miami. In fact, the Miami location WAS a hospital on the waterfront, now it is a dorm.
Several trips down there. Owner was a former cop, and working security for Johnson and Wales, got the hauling contract.
twice per week. Screw logbooks, 100+ mph got me there and backtexasbbqbest Thanks this. -
Why doesn't anyone drive those cabovers any more? I think they are cool looking! Of course I've never been inside one or driven one...
