the annual thing has been out for awhile now.

by bro in law has had to do it. every year for 5 years. for some reason. he's off it now.

they're also supposed to look at the file that's supposed to be recorded on a memory disc. to make sure you've been using it.

I sent a copy of my latest compliance data to the DOT clinic, it took the clinic woman 3 days to get back to me:

So, I guess another sleep study. What's it going to show? That I have sleep apnea and need to use a CPAP? Ha, I already know that, and I have been using a CPAP for 11 years, long before I became a truck driver.

I guess it is this company (Service Transport in Houston) that uses a clinic that demands an annual sleep study. I will do it, but in 10 months, I am going to leave the company and get my own DOT doctor to do my next physical. If he asks for a recent sleep study, I will have one with less than a year. If I have to do this every year, that's it for truck driving, it's not enough money for the hassle. I can find a hundred other jobs making $50K a year without this BS.

I am am right there with you. A stress test out of pocket in November and now a sleep study. After this morning I am ready to cut my cdl up into pieces and throw it away. Go back to running equipment and partying my ### off whenever I want to. Piss on all of This.

WellI was told today by my employer that if I wanted to go back into equipment then I could and could stay at the same pay rate.

Accepting the Railroad truck job= $20k more on my salary, operating a $980,000 truck but being on the road 1 month at a time.
Staying where I am at in the same rig making the same money.
Staying where I am at running equipment making in between money with no sleep studies, no stress test annually and partake in any party supplies I want anytime I want.

Might not be a difficult decision.

There are written requirements for people who conduct DOT physicals.
I would ask your safety department to have their Doctor show them, and you where that requirement is.

Hint, it doesn't. If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea you only get a medical card if it is being successfully treated. And you then only a one year card. Most CPAPs do have the ability to record use and results. The doctor may want to review that data. But, there is no call for an annual sleep study.

As one of the others said, if your company can't, or won't help resolve this I would look for another company.

Thanks, syd, that's what I told the Service Transport HR, but they cut me off and flat rejected any discussion. They have their DOT clinic and their word is LAW. I have a CPAP machine that records my compliance.

When I went to my personal physician to get him to order another sleep study, he could not understand why. "They know you have apnea and you are in compliance, why do another study? What's it going to determine? That you have sleep apnea? We already know that and the compliance data recorded shows your therapy is successful..."

    I'm looking at other options....

I don't get this one at all. If you were a cpap user wanting off the machine then okay. But if you're content using the machine then you should be allowed to. It's not like the machine will hurt you.

I've been a CPAP user since October, 2007. When I was with Schneider as a company driver, they needed my readable card sent in quarterly.
When I drove for Crete, I only had to have a printout of my compliance with me when I did my annual DOT physical.
I'm a L/O for Schneider now, and the same held true when I hired back on here in January...printout of compliance.

I've never had to do another sleep study in the 7+ years since my initial one. I could probably use one, but I've never been required to do one, in part because my readings are still in line with where they need to be for me.

Man, there's a lot of bad info out there.

Yeah, when I started truck driving in Jan 2013 as a new driver, they wanted me to have a new sleep study. Well, since the last time I had one was 10 years earlier, I thought, why not? I had been using CPAP therapy since 2004, and I went ahead and paid for the sleep study and new CPAP machine with SD card out of my own pocket. But EVERY year? That's so unnecessary.
