Nobody is arguing there is a certain risk involved.

Not sure why I keep making the mistake of coming into this forum thinking that it's title, "QUESTIONS from new drivers", means that there might be a question from a driver. My bad.

Perhaps TTR needs a new forum titled "OPINIONS from wannabees." Seems like such a forum would be rife with new threads. No point in replying though, since they already know everything.

This is so true. I've had elog guys tell me that they are allowed 90 minutes of off duty driving every day. I've tried to explain to them that DoT does not allow that but they have told me yes they do. The office people say we are allowed it. Drivers at the company we are leased on to have told me that. Heck, the log lady in the office told my brother that if he needs extra time during the day, he can get up to 90 minutes a day off duty driving.

That is so much crap cause if DoT checks you out, he's going to hammer you. That is if he can even navigate the Elogs. I went through a scale the other day and they were out there looking at log books. IF you had elogs, they waved you on. Paper, they wanted to examine. Know for a fact elogs are cheated on just as much as paper logs are.

I say drive the extra 20 miles, paper or not. It's 20 freaking miles, not 120. All the talk about trip planning etc... is just that, talk. Stuff happens out in the real world. If you are out here long enough, you are going to run into situations where you have to bend the rules a little bit. Anyone that says otherwise is full of it. They need to get off of their high horse and get down in the same air as the working man.

That's both funny and sad. It's not like DOT doesn't know this goes on. One day they will start cracking down on it, probably in response to something bad happening while a driver is on 'line 5'.

The most important rule in the HOS is the one that's hardest to enforce. § 392.3: Ill or fatigued operator. It's up to the individual to exercise their best judgment to comply with that.

e-logs, 30 minute breaks and everything else does nothing to change the simple fact that ultimately the driver is the only one who can decide if he's up to driving or not. The Walmart dude who took out Tracy Morgan was fully compliant with every reg except for that one I believe.

Yet people are so quick to scream that if you're 15 minutes over your 11 you're a ###### menace because the rules say that 11 hours is as many as a person can drive safely in a day.

Unfortunately, the more they do to remove the ability of drivers to think for themselves and make decisions the more they attract drivers unable to do those things.

That last paragraph really hit the nail on the head in regards to the extreme over regulation we're facing.

Well said. I agree with every word. They want robots in the drivers seat and IMO, that's asking for trouble. So many new drivers today have never even seen a paper log and are trained by other drivers who have never seen a real log book either. Elogs are not making the roads any more safe or unsafe. It's the drivers today who can't think for themselves or have been trained to not use common sense.

But it is what it is.....
