I think the veteran drivers are also to blame for low wages. It's like a driver 10 years from now saying, company xyz starts off at .30 that's just part of climbing the ladder meanwhile they're also capping off their maximum wage. Too many vets accept low wages from bottom to top and think the current top pay is all they deserve.
-
so exactly how much should a driver with 3 years be making? I live very comfortably on what I make. And I don't need to stay out for weeks on end. Your attitude in general is why you're stuck working at a place you hate...again. Good thing you spent 8 grand on your CDL.Lonesome Thanks this.

Reason im unemployed now is because of the pay.I could have had 4 jobs till they told me the pay.I won't settle for starter wages and not getting paid for the worked performed on line4. I have an interview tomorrow with Dr.Pepper.
UKJ and bigdogpile Thank this. -
That's why I hate reefer I knew what it was though.. quoting walmart after I asked why they haven't raised the dock plate after 2 hours, "we have four hours to unload you" they're fully aware of when your detention pay kicks in and will take full advantage of all the free time they have at your expense. I'm not going to be doing reefer for much longer.

Did you see that list someone posted about top 100 private carriers? http://www.ttnews.com/top100/private/
With your experience I know you can a good gig somewhere. I am glad you're not devaluing yourself just for a job either, if the majority truckers did that(51% or more) you'd see better job wages.pattyj Thanks this. -
Are you currently with Werner now? What do they pay for detention?Reefer I can't see where it pays anymore then dry van.
-
i honestly think they don't even care when detention kicks in. I think they'd rather just let things get backed up and let the next shift deal with it. Ever been to the DC in Sunnyside, WA? If you get to the receiving window more than 10 minutes after your appt, you're probably not getting empty till the next day. Doesn't matter if you've spent 45 minutes in line at the guard shack either. It seems most WM's are going out of their way to be a holes.
-
one of the only upsides to reefer is it doesn't slow down from Jan-Mar nearly as much as dry van does. But the wait times do suck.
-
I did see that and applied to I think 3 on that list.I'm not looking for a top knotch company meaning excellent equipment excellent benefits just something that pays drivers what they're worth. It gets really depressing all the work you spend looking for companies applying then go talk to them and u find out the real deal about the company. Then they wonder why they cant find the drivers. They all deserve it too.
Bobtail Barry Thanks this.
