I haven't seen anything about this yet, so I'll post it. There is a very good way to research a company before you hire on. It's called SAFESTAT. It's a website that is run by the FMCSA. You can search for a company by name, or D.O.T. #. They give alot of information on a company's safety record, violations, even a list of every ticket written to that company. Look at their safety rating, they may have had a satisfactory rating at their last evaluation, but if you go to the safestat module, and you look for the ISS-D recommendation, you will see what the D.O.T. cop sees when he pulls you up on his computer. If your company is rated 1-49 you get a pass, 50-74 you may be worth a look, 75-100 inspection is warranted. I worked for a company that had a 99, (Mcleod Express), unfortunately I didn't find this before I hired on with them, and found myself wishing I had. There's a lot of info on this website, look close, and choose carefully.

Actually, there have been a few of us who have referred to this site on different occasions. One of the things I look at is if you go to the drivers tab it will show the OOS (out of service) rating. You can then choose from a drop down menu how to view the details. I believe the best is OOS w/summary as it breaks down the violations. A company with high 11/4 or 60/70 violations may very well be pushing their drivers (or they have drivers who do not understand that THEY are responsible for their driving actions.) This particular one gives the number of each of the violations used.

It is an excellent site for reviewing a company. It also disproves some of the false notions people have about companies.
