Hi pattyj, an O/O is paid 73% of the total move (load rate + fuel surcharge) plus any accessorials that are incurred. The wording I used could have been a bit better. Sorry about that.......too many Cadbury Eggs.

    pattyj Thanks this.

Your edit for pay clarification really didn't clarify anything IMO. 73% total move could still mean 73% percent of fuel surcharge.

Pay 73% of linehaul, 100% FSC + Accessorials (then list them or plan on answering the questions about what they are.)

That how it should be written, unless that is not how it is to be paid!

pattyj, Redbird Carriers and Lowa3468 Thank this.

    Pattyj,
An accessorial includes anything extra that is incurred on the move ie stop offs, out of route mileage, dry runs, detention, lumpers, etc

    Ukumfe,
Hopefully this helps...........for example, if the line haul is $100 and the customer is currently paying 18% FSC (which was the current rate last week for that particular customer), the total rate is $100 plus $18. The driver would then be paid 73% of the total turn which in this case is $86.14. These is just an example with nice round numbers.

Pay is 73% of the Line Haul and FSC plus accessorials if there are any. Yes, that does mean FSC is also 73%. You could break down the numbers such that FSC is 100% and Line Haul is a bit lower than 73% but since the FSC varies week to week the Line Haul percentage would also move with it. That's why I stick with saying 73% line haul + 73% FSC.

If anybody has questions or concerns about these numbers and is looking at applying we would be more than happy to talk to you. Give us a call and we can discuss. We in no way hide what you get since everything is upfront. We take care of our drivers and with the abundance of freight and relationships we have with our customers, we afford each driver to run efficiently whether you're local or regional.

I will say thank you for being honest with us here on TTR about being dishonest. You can run the numbers any way you like. You can do all the fuzzy math your carriers calculators can handle. What it comes down to is very simple. I pay 100% of the fuel and you will always pocket 17% of any FSC.

As an O/O that revenue loss over enough time will lead to my eventual demise while Redbird laughs all the way to the bank. Best of luck to you.

    Lowa3468 Thanks this.

I did the math that he has stated....

    73% of $100 dollars is $73.00
    18% of $100 dollars is $18.00

    to me $73 + $18 = $91.00
and you say that $86.14 is what driver takes

so realistically, the driver is actually losing an additional $4.86 for fuel which the FSC should be paid 100 percent to the truck? and just using the one load for 52 weeks a driver would be at a total loss of $252.72 that's just about 1 full tank of fuel...

    did i miss something here?

Everyone's entilted to their own opinion and the grass is always greener on the other side. There was never a dishonest post that I made and in the end the driver is paid 73% of the entire move (rate +FSC). Our drivers make a VERY good paycheck with the Line Haul and effective load planning. I can completely understand the initial frustration but I can tell you without a doubt we have very happy drivers or else we wouldn't be in business. Just like how Lowa3468 found a good carrier by taking a chance at the FlyingJ. If you happen to see any of our drivers, take a moment and ask them how they feel about Redbird Carriers out of the Chicago Terminal. Good night all, here's to a safe and productive week.

    Cheers

yes, but you are forgetting first off I am an O/O and was losing my butt, I had really no choice, except to take a leap of faith....in doing so, not only did I find a great place to be but in one year of being here not one time has my company ever tried, or attempted to take advantage of myself, or my situation....everything was laid out black and white, and written out.

My only point is and was and still is, one should get 100 percent of the FSC....and you taking 17 percent doesn't seem right or fair. I don't think any is disagreeing that your current drivers are happy and or paid well..

now if you are talking company driver and you paying 73 percent across the board that a whole different ball game.

I appreciate your comments, and all but to excuse a very good question such as

why don't o/o get 100 percent of the FSC?

this is kinda hard to swallow considering that fuel isn't used in the office to get from the computer to the breakroom or restroom.

It's bad enough o/o get dinged with everything else but to also ding on the fuel having hard time understanding so can you please explain this better?

do company drivers get paid the 73% including the fuel surcharge too?

look forward for your answers to this.....
