Now that you boosted your hp the correct turbo would be a 177148 for your application.
If I remember right the A/R on your 174259 is a small 1.10
and with enough fuel you could end up with a failure from being spun to fast. Not saying for sure it will , but it could.
New guy, First truck. Need some engine advice! 3406E power.

I hooked up to the trailer just to see if it would pull any different with a little more weight. Still, seems like a total pooch. Peak torque is supposed to be at 1200 rpm, and it's got nothing down low. Won't pull over 20-21 lbs of boost, and to get that much boost, it takes some rpm to get there. I should note, I thought it was weird how quick the turbo spools and how soon it starts spooling. The truck sounds like it runs fine, just won't pull like I feel it should.
Tomorrow when the local shop opens up, I'm going to do a leak test with their kit (haven't been around to do it yet) because im at a loss for things it could be.
So this 177148 turbo, does anyone have inducer/exducer measurements for this? And is it necessary to have a wastegste?
Another thing, are cat motors just naturally quieter than cummins? -
Swan, I think you are assisting me on the other forum too. Lol thanks!!

Sorry, I just call it as I see it. And it was wrong.
Dont want the guy to get the wrong info. He's having a hard enough time already we don't need him thinking he has a turbo off a 600 on there. That's all.
Oh and I'm actually not a bad guy. Lol -

Oh, all the way up to 1800 rpm, that's the highest it will get. Lol. I'll report back with info in a few hours. I appreciate all the info from you guys. Everyone here local just look at me like a dumb young kid who just wants this fast truck and don't think anything is wrong. I'd like to think o have a brain enough to know there is even though this is my first ventures with a semi.
just to waste some time until the shop opens, here's my old 1950 chevy truck. 2003 6.0 chevy motor. Blow thru carb, e85, forged Pistons, forged rods, custom cam, little bit of head work, th400 with a trans brake, built ford 9", 29x15x15" tires, and a billet 80mm borg Warner with a race cover in the bed. Just have some wiring to do, get a few odds and ends, and a driveshaft. Then it's about ready to roll!
Cetane+, BigCam9670 and tsavory Thank this. -
Well, I found about a half dozen little leaks in the boots and clamps. One little pinhole in the air to air. I jb welded the small pinhole in the air to air, put on a new boot, 3 new clamps, and no leaks. Held to 40 psi. Took it out for a test drive and still, no difference. Stopped in at another local cat place, he plugged into it, made sure the boost sensor was reading properly, and it was, so, we pinched off the wastegate line, and it instantly made 28-32 lbs. So, with that being said. What am I looking at now? Wastegate cracked open a bit? Or just actuator out of adjustment? Also, I have a small crack on the turbine housing too. It's just one thing after another. Man!
As as for a different turbo, the 177148 turbo, does anyone have measurements on that? I want to see how it compares to the 171702. Because that's what I have just laying around. -
Your 171702 will work fine. It's a 75mm comp with a 96/88 turbine and 1.32 housing.
The 177148 is a 75 mm comp with a bit smaller turbine. Not sure the numbers ,could be 92/84. But it has a gated 1:32. Housing.
The 177148 will work better as far as responce. -
Awesome. That's ecactly what I wanted to know! Thanks guys for all the help!!
