Defrost Only, No Vents or Floor. 2011 DuraStar

    IMG_2504.jpg Air only comes out the defrost, cannot get air to come out of the vents or floor, no matter what I select on the controls.
    Sometimes, when I first start the truck it will come out the vents but then goes back to defrost.

    Looking for advice on how to go about fixing this myself. Should I replace the control panel? HOW do I replace the control panel?

    Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

    Have you checked the switch? Maybe your switch is bad.. that would be first place i start it's not the blower cuz its blowing maybe a tube feel off? lol

    Blend motor or blend door. There is a box that has a door & motor - it diverts air over the heater core or the a/c cold core.
    In newer vehicles the blend door/diverter is controlled electronically by the temp control. In older vehicles it's controlled by a cable from the temp control.

    I have come across this problem once. Down by the heater core, below the fuse panel is a mode actuator motor. The plastic on it broke and it was just free spinning when moving the switch.... I would check that before throwing parts at it.

    OK, hopefully I will have a chance to look at it on Saturday.
    Not sure how to even get that cover off the heater core but hopefully can figure it out.

    I can hear something moving when I switch the selector from A/C to MAX A/C and back so maybe that part is working but it still wont blow out the vents. Just blows out the defrost.

    Here is picture of your HVAC box. Should be item #3 you want to check out. This actuator should be turning when you change the mode dial in the control. If the actuator turns you know the controls are good and something is broken or stripped with the actuator or door mechanism.

    So I think I have determined the problem to be the control panel. View attachment 82763 I am only getting .22vdc to the mode door actuator motor.

    New from the dealer is $618 so am hoping I can fine one from a wrecker or if anybody knows of a used truck parts site it would be very much appreciated.

    View attachment 82764 Mode door actuator motor turns when I cycle the ignition on and off but does not turn when selecting different modes on the control panel.

    Also, if I find one online does it have to be the EXACT same part number or is it compatible as long as they both have A/C ?

    Is there a "learn" procedure that needs to be performed?

    Could it be mine just needs to "relearn" itself?
