I have been using it since about 1995. I began using it about 6 mos after it was created. It has prevented me from getting a ticket numerous times.
Is anyone using "Driver's Daily Log" software?

As a backup I mean something I can have forever and print when I want it without digging out old paperwork. And I also like the idea that I can use it to double-check my calculations for the recap. It's overkill, maybe, but having perfect logs and no violations would be nice. -
It is also a big help to have the ability to scan/copy paperwork for your records.chicadriver Thanks this. -

Keep in mind, anything with a moving part is acceptable to failure. The best thing I could say is. Back it up on CD's or a flash drive........

This is the ONLY logging method I will use. Sure I know how to draw the lines on a paper book and the math is easy, but the pc makes no mistakes. I've been DOT'd numerous times and they don't hardly even look at my logs past the current day be current to the last change of duty status and the previous 7 days printed and signed. I as an O/O also like the abiliy to track expenses, revenue, fuel consumption fuel cost per mile and other such satistics. This software helps with IFTA filings and taxes. I can't say enough good about DDL and do hope everyone at least will take it for a "spin" and see why myself and others enjoy using it.

I'm loving the demo software and as an O/O I think you understand what I mean about tracking and record keeping. I'm a company driver right now but I'm a business-woman too. Thanks for the info. -

I use it and I am 99% satisfied with it. I haven't written a log in a few years, and the worry that "things break" is overblown. Yes, things can break, but it isn't really an issue, at least for me. I also have a paper logbook for manual backup, if needed. (it's the law to do that) but it is only filled out if I can't print out the logs. I am current on printed logs for the last 7 days, and have been DOT'D with it. All my stuff is backed up to a separate thumb drive.
So far, the DOT loves it, California loves it, several officers have been impressed with it, and never has it been an issue that today's log isn't printed yet. I tell them that I can print a current log in a couple of minutes if needed, and so far, only 1 asked for that. Zip, bang, there ya go, officer.
The 1% I am dissatisfied with is that they changed the option to "turn off the current time" marker so that it resets when you print any log. If you have closed the day out and printed, the timer resets, and several pop-ups tell you that the time you have on the log is advanced to the actual time, which is technically a false log.
In the past, some bozo was using the program to fill out their logs several days in advance; they got caught and was fined; then went on to blame the program for "allowing" them to be able to fill out those false logs without warning them that this was illegal. So DDL fixed that "error" (which was not an error) and wont change it back.
I argued that a driver could write out several logs by hand, days in advance with paper logs, and get the same result of being caught and fined. Would that mean that JJ Keller should be responsible for "allowing" that to happen without giving a warning? (which is the way it is now) and Bjorklund said no, but this was a CYA move, to avoid any "future incidents." Stupid lawyers screw it up for everyone, ya know?
So, now, when you go to off duty or the sleeper for the rest of the day, and you draw the line to midnight? When you try to do that, a pop-up lets you know that you have filled out the log in advance of the current time. So, I turn off the timer, and finish the log, print it, and when the print is done, a pop-up again reminds you about filling out a log in advance, I click OK, and it pops up again. Grrr. Turn off the timer, again, and it remains off, until you print again, and the pop ups start all over again. Real dumb, but there ya go. This only happens when you finish out the day.
There is a "close current day" option, and that is nice, but the line is not drawn from the current time to midnight when you print this way. When you go back to draw the line, the pop ups start. Grrrr!!!!
Yeah, yeah, it is easily ignored, but it ruins an otherwise perfect logbook program. It is a very good program, worth the price.chicadriver Thanks this.
