I'm thinking about going with Prime. I'm in the N.E. and was looking into their Regional refeer route. I'm exmilitary already have my CDL A and currently taking a refresher course. The recruiter said I have to do 40k mile with a trainer/driver out of Penn. Once that's done I get my route in the NE. Here's my questions.

    1) How often are you home, I mean besides the weekends does your route bring you through home?
    2) Does Prime really pay .42-.48 CPM? What would an average weeks pay be? ballpark
    3) Does the TnT go by fast?
    4) Do they give you unrealistic timetables.
    5) I've ben reading that there's a lot of waiting for live loading unloading. Do you get paid for this?
    6) Speaking of pay, what do you get paid for? Besides CPM is there any extra pay.
    7) Will I get a good amount of miles?
I'd like to do LTL but every Company that's hiring wants verifiable driving experience.
    Thanks

    2) You would start at .38 CPM + .05 CPM for eco 49 truck bonus + .05 CPM for NE regional bonus = .48 CPM. Then your fuel bonus is on top of that if you get one.

    3) For 40k, figure 5k per week since your truck will be dispatched as a team truck. I'd bet on closer to 10 weeks rather than 8 weeks though once you factor in home time and whatever else can happen on the road. It feels like it goes by fast, at least for me it did.

If you need to get some experience in, Prime is a good place to do that. I started with them but in Flatbed but assuming all their divisions run about the same. I can make more money by working for other outfits so I wouldn't make a career out of them, but if you need some experience to get you into a different outfit, I'd say go to Prime vs some of the other big starter companies. If I was in a pinch, I'd go back to them in a heartbeat. With us, they always gave us enough time to get there but not enough time to screw around - which is understandable. They want you rolling and some (most?) people aren't very self motivated - especially if new, so they screw around too much and then blame the company when they "can't make no money". They have their happy career drivers but for me, I can do better financially and freedom wise owning my truck and driving for other outfits like Landstar or CRST but as a place to start and get some experience, Prime is a great place to do that.
