My dad, while getting on a scale at night, damaged another truck's headlight and bumper with his trailer. Police was called, report was made, but no ticket has been given to him.
Now my dad's company told him he needs to pay 2k deductible and get 3 points or pay 7k cash for the repairs.
I know this is BS, he does not have to pay anything, but my question is, how this will affect his record?
Small accident?

He will have an accident on his record. He doesn't have to pay anyone anything also and I'm sure the company will fire him. Time to move on
-
What about points on his license?
-
If he was not cited by the police officer, who is going to put points against his license? A company has no authority to put points against anyone's license, only the "law" has the authority.STexan, 2Girls_1Truck and Raiderfanatic Thank this.

He's gonna have to go back to Detroit and run the liquor store. Crack city will give him a warm welcome.
-
Not sure about the points on the license. He should probably just walk away right now. They can't make him pay anything. They would probably fire him anyways after getting money from him.
Semi-Truculent Hamish Thanks this. -
The scales are on private property so no ticket or points on his license. He should clean out his truck and quit that company. Turn the truck in at the terminal. Take pictures if he can showing the truck is OK.
That's right, they're playing the waiting game; as soon as he gives them money, he's fired. The trucking company is setting him up; just quit now.ramblingman, 2Girls_1Truck, semi retired semi driver and 7 others Thank this. -
The only damage the company can do is put it on his DAC report...
I would not pay them a dime!
Like the others have stated,Tell them to stuff it! -
Agreed. It was on private property. There wont be any accidents on his MVR. If you will notice, the report the police wrote up was probably an "incident" report more than likely, especially if it was a bigger department. If it was a smaller department, it maybe on an accident report, but it wont get turned in to the state because, again, its on private property.. not on public property.

Although I have never owned any big rig, I have seen how decked out they can be, but $7k's worth of damages????? That ain't no small accident, but a wallop of one.
Dad is already fired, his company must have a very high accident rate, costing them tons of money in premiums.
Have him park it and walk away. No company can order someone to pay.
Now however, they may with hold his pay check, and for that he very well may need a lawyer, so just be aware of that as well.
And also, NO company can give points to a driver, only the DMV. maybe his company will DAC him, so what. He needs to get up a complete description of the accident and every job he applies to, include that with the application, when asked, "any accidents"?
