If someone has given up their apartment when starting the swift school so is technically 'homeless', how is hometime handled for a swift OTR driver. Do they just get you back to a terminal or can you request your time at a relatives home that is not near a terminal?

For any company, you can request your time off anywhere in their lanes as long as you have a "safe place" to park your truck. Sometimes I go home, other times I visit family and friends around the country. When you're not home, you have to tell your DM where the truck will be parked. In most cases, with the exception of places like West Memphis, a truck stop will do. You can usually get permission to park at the truck stop from your company. Most truck stops will charge you something like $10/day to park unattended. I pay $10/day at the truck stop near my house for just the trailer -- I can only park the tractor at the house. Make sure you have/get an air brake lock when you leave the tractor unattended.

You can take home time where ever you want.

My home terminal is Otay Mesa, CA.
I alternate my home times between where I live in MN and Denver, CO where my girls are.

Macro 8 is the Home Call macro on the Qualcom.
    It requires 3 things.
Driver Code, Location (Zip Code that you want the home time to take place in), and Start Date.

Thanks for the info. Is there a rule of thumb for how home time is accrued? Is there a guarantee amount per month?

I'm not with swift but often take my home time elsewhere...I park at the terminal and have stayed in my truck, stayed at friends, or used priceline hotwire... I truly enjoy it...freedom

6 days out earns 1 day of home time.

But there are a couple catch-22's.

You'll not be allowed to take more than 3 or 4 days off, no matter how long you have been out, without having to possibly clean out and turn in your truck.
Then, when you come back from home time, you may have to wait several more days to get reassigned to a different truck.
Some terminals are more strict, and they don't allow more than 2 days off before you have to turn in the truck. Phoenix, for example.

Home time days do not roll over.
You could be out for 6 weeks and take 3 days home time. The extra days are not rolled over into the next period.
It resets to zero when you come back on duty.

The one day for six only really works if you take home time every 2-3 weeks. But then you are spending too much time at home and will have too many short pay checks as a result.
There is always one short check for every home time because of the time off. Tine it wrong and it could be 2 short pay checks.

All of that sounds so awful. My last company job was pretty awesome when it came to home time. I try to avoid these Swift sub sections when I can, but they really put things in perspective when I'm having a rough day.

If y'all are living paycheck to paycheck look into some money saving strategies.

I'll give you 8 out of 10 for troll post. As a company swift driver last year I made 54,350 last year. Granted I can work elsewhere make about 7k to 10k more but meh I like what I do....but swift starting to piss me of with the camera, currently there is none on my truck as of yet...plus I take 4 to 5 days off just depends...........

But back to the op question macro 8 and decide where you want to go for home time

I could take home time every 2 or 3 weeks if I wanted to, and not lose any home time days.

It is my own choice. I simply don't want that many low pay checks - which is not Swift's fault.
Every time you have a week that is short 2 or 3 days the pay will be lower.

As to not being able to roll the days over, I'm fine with that.
I try to see things from the companies point of view as well as my own. It tends to keep my perspective in a more correct position.

That perspective fails when it comes to places like Phoenix that only allow 2 days max no matter how long you have been out. That is pure abuse to the drivers that are subjected to it.

Living paycheck to paycheck is my way of life. It is how it has always been since I got out of high school.
I am OK with that too, because every time I have tried to save anything, it always backfired on me. I won't go into details, but that is just how my life has always been.
The Universe is simply against me accumulating anything in the longer term.
On the other hand, I am making good money at Swift and I have been able to help family when I need to. More importantly, when they need it.
When I really need it, it is there.
God looks out for my immediate needs, whatever they may be. But no more.
Well, sometimes more. Never so much that I can save anything long term, but enough that I can sometimes buy a new toy or splurge on something.
