Hey guys, I'm interested in getting a Century, I drove one for a while before, I like the truck but my biggest problem is that it's #### loud inside. After driving a Cascadia and a Peterbilt 388 it's going to be hard to go back. So I was just wondering, has anyone undertaken a sound proofing with a Century before? Is it a pretty momumental task to strip out the interior?
Is the FLD / Classic a lot quiter inside? Should I take the mpg penalty for the FLD/Classic to save my ears?
Century noise reduction?

Interior sound is one of my biggest gripes on these aero trucks. I used to drive an International 9400. The whole dash would rattle, and every interior piece played a symphony orchestra.
My classic is nice and tight. Real quiet. When I bite the bullet and get one of these rickety aero trucks, I'm ripping the whole interior out. Then I'll just rebuild it the way it should have been put together in the first place. I'd dynomat every piece of metal, and the firewall. I'd then upgrade the insulation. I'd replace the weather stripping, and dynomat and insulate the doors as well. Putting it back together I'd use gaskets to seal everything back together. I'd even make my own gaskets with silicon gasket maker, and freaking use self tappers to fasten it all together if I had to. I'd imagine the old hardware becoming useless once adding all the extra stuff in some areas. -
Airtabs help mounted on the side of the hood to keep the air out of the open area just in front of the cab doors.

First they don't call them freightshakers for nothing.... lol freightliners aren't bad trucks. Century's and Colombia's are what i call budget minded trucks and were designed for mega carriers. Thats one of the teasons they are so noisey

Welp I'm gonna have 6 months or so to undergo this project, I'm going to make a website with detailed information of the project with before and after decibel recordings and such. There doesnt seem to be any good guides for such a thing so maybe I can help out other people who want to turn a Century into a Cadillac lol.
I'm going to go by the principles on this guide www.sounddeadenershowdown.com, because he seems to know his ####.
Hoodliner under hood, and under truck cab, and on top of drive fenders. I'm gonna stuff thinsulate acoustic behind the dash, dynamat the firewall, vinyl and thinsulate the inside of the doors and the walls/roof of the sleeper. Oh jeez, this seems like a lot of work. *starts shopping for FLD's* lol -
Just watch the weight of the materials used. It could add up.
