So I got my CDL class A from a driving school about 2 years ago. I signed on with US Xpress right out of driving school but quit after 3 weeks because I was still only 21 and thought driving OTR sucked. I managed to get a job as a garbageman driving a cdl class b truck and have been driving for more than a year now without any accidents or citations.

I was wanting to know if later on down the road I wanted to go back to OTR once my body breaks down from slinging trash if the big OTR companys would require me to go back to driving school again on account of most of them requiring you to be a recent graduate?

tl:dr has anyone here went from driving a CDL class b truck to driving a class a truck with minimal class A experience

Most likely you would need a refresher course, at least.
Even experienced OTR drivers that have been out of it for 6 months do.

There's a good company right there in Ohio that will get you rolling.
Dutch Maid is the name (dutchmaid.com). One driver posted he makes a thousand a week there. It's a relatively small company.

Once your body breaks down, driving a truck may still be very painful and/or difficult to impossible. I just had to quit driving due to degenerative scoliosis and spinal stenosis. I've been suffering lower back and right leg pain for over ten years now, and spent the last three years driving because it was too painful for me to be on my feet anymore. I didn't know what was wrong with my back, I was just doing my best to deal with the pain and hope it didn't get worse.

Well, now I find out that driving for a living was one of the worst things I could have been doing and actually sped up the degeneration of my back. It's not like it would have made much difference, however, since I was not up for a desk job either. Just something to think about.

Now I am only 46 and have the back of a 76 year old man. They want to cut me 12" both front and back to gut and rebuild with bone from my hip and bovine four vertebrae in my lower back, 2 rods and 10 screws. And that won't stop the degeneration ongoing in the rest of my spine. Screwed is I. Quite shocking, really, I knew my back was bad but I had no F idea it was this bad. I can't do it. I've had surgery before, and this worse than open heart surgery, I just can't do it.

I don't understand, if you're a driver, why are you slinging trash?? Moosetek is right, no matter how much experience you have, all the big companies scam you with a refresher course (a couple of days) that costs you a reduction in pay for months. Find a small operation and get some experience with them before applying to the big boys...
