I filled out a mass application online that was sent to a number of trucking companies, like Super Service, BAH, Marten, and a number of others. If I can't run hoppers, which I would prefer, I would like to do some kind of regional lane where I can go home on the weekend. US Xpress advertised a lane like this, BAH says they have one. I just got a call from them today and it sounded pretty promising on the phone. I read about the dude who had to pay the $85 for orientation or they would blemish his DAC. While that sounds like a d__k move, I'm pretty sure it is par for the course. What are they like to drive for? Is it an OK company? The route they described sounded really attractive and the pay sounds decent.

???????????? Think about it, you just said that you read a post about a driver that had to pay $85.00 for orientation or they would mess with his DAC, What's the reason for that? To me, I would run like hell from that outfit.

Yep , pretty much what the OP needs to do. Too many other options out there. One little but of advice to the OP.....take your time. Do lots of question asking , don't accept a job just because you're offered one.

most of their equipment I see running through there looks like junk. I didn't see the post you're referring to but that $85 deal sounds like some bs and could be indicative of trouble to come.

you could look at epes if you're wanting home weekends in that area. I did my first 3 years with them they're out of Greensboro and will get you home weekends and have a lot of freight running that lane through Greenville. I still talk to alot of my former students there. decent company, just upgraded their pay package, fairly well maintained equipment tractors no older than 3 years. I'd have stayed there if I hadn't gotten a much better gig.

Thanks for the advise. I'll check 'em out.

The story with the $85 is he was waiting for a doctor to give him a note before he could go to work and while he was waiting, someone else hired him. I worked at USX for 2 months before taking a local job last summer. Maybe I should have stayed at USX because they were decent. USX is WAAAAAAY better than Werner. The people that hired me worked me through a temp agency and tossed me at the end of the contract. I have a low opinion of people who just want disposable labour. Anyway, Money's gettin' tight and I need to get rolling.

I still would LOVE to do more grain-hauling, like I did in IL, back in '13, but there isn't a lot of that in the south, at least not near Greenville. IT was great work. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun and decent pay.
