Hello all, does anyone here have a manual fan switch factory installed or have you added one to a VN series Volvo?

I'd like to add one that works directly with factory wiring if it's possible but the parts dept can't find any info on switches or harnesses since my truck wasn't factory installed with one.

    Thanks for any help !!

Hi,like Nasriza told you, your truck should be built with a ON/OFF air fan clutch to be able to install a manual switch, if you have an electronic Viscus fan or a Fluid Fan you can't,
Note: In both case the harness is not alreday there, if you have a Volvo engine you need to wire the manual switch to the VECU, if you have a Cummins engine you need to wire the switch to the Engine ECU and change parameter for manual fan inside of the engine ECU.

Thanks guys, it's a Volvo D16 and clutch is definetely air operated.

I tried to track the airline to the control solenoid but lost it in the mess of wires and hoses on drivers side front frame rail...ugh.

I would love to figure out how to install the switch with factory harness and not chop wires if possible.

I don't think it will be possible with factory harness mostly because unless u give Volvo parts personnel a bin that has it they look at you like you're crazy when asking for anything else solenoid should be right outside you're feet mounted on firewall behind harness u can trace wires in cab and splice in this way they go to you're vecu mounted right under fuse box

Yes without a VIN of a truck that has one factory installed, the Volvo dealer cannot locate what I need.

So the solenoid is located under dash near my feet on the firewall?

I see several air lines attached from engine bay side to the firewall, this would make sense why I couldn't find it on the frame anywhere.

It is in front end of engine. Driver's side.

First idea - to fit switch, but ECM will throw fault code and u can add one more air solenoid it line....

Pablo, the airline wraps from the passenger side of the engine to the drivers side by going under the radiator.
The hose turn heads toward the rear of the truck and disappears into a harness with wires and more air lines.

Today I searched for the silenoid again without success, including disassembling the lower dash looking for air solenoids.

This thing is really getting me frustrated, lol.
I'm thinking about buying a normally open air solenoid and just splicing it online and using the switch to cut the air off to the fan clutch.

On Volvo truck like yours the fan clutch air solonoid is bolted on a little braket on the fire wall, under the hood above the LH inner fender under the main harness below the electrical pasthrought, look for a green 1/4 diameter plastic tubing to reach the solonoid,
Also on a truck like yours the way to install a manual fan switch is: bring a fused 12 volts with ON/Off switch on the PA 19 of the VECU .
If you need it i can give you tomorrow the P/N of the spécial terminal to use for the VECU.
