I will grant you that the Series 60 is not something that you would take to an NHRA event for getting out of the gate, but when it is working hills and such at road speed it is no slouch, at least the 60 in my glider isn't. And getting out of the hole is not what I get any truck for, I save that kind of crap for my personal vehicles. Not like I am cruising on a Saturday night with a hot chick in the passenger seat. I had 46,000 lb of bee puke ( honey ) in the box today, on the rolling hills of I-80 in western Iowa, and I could walk the hills and do better than most of the other trucks. Never downshifted all day on a pull, even the climb up I-680 off of I-29. Doubt any of those other trucks weighed in more than me today. I run at a moderate pace ( 62 - 64 ) and several instances I could catch up to the rear end of a truck that had passed me on the down side of the hill before. By the time we got to the top of the next hill I was having to slow a little to keep the gap. And it never peaks higher than 900F EGT on a hot day on a hard pull, even crawling heavy on the climb from Ft. Smith to Joplin with the outside temp near 100F. And per the ECM dump I recently did... 7.83 average mpg over 387,000 miles. Engine uses about 1/2 gallon in almost 25,000 mile oil changes.
I am just fine with the 60 in my glider.

Mine won't even climb an ant hill it's such a pouch. I have too downshift in and around the indy area and it's all flat (465,865,65). I'm not impressed at all -
If you dont have a guy around that plays with the ECM take it to the nearest Detroit Diesel shop, and I'm talking Detroit not a Freightliner dealer. Tell them your not happy with the way its running and see what they can do for you. Sounds like theres something wrong if your downshifting on flat ground. I run mine in the 1425-1450rpm range and downshift on a good grade when she hits 1400rpm. Like Cowpie said once its rolling its eats the hills up.

Curious who reworked your ecm?? -
Had the injectors tweaked made a huge difference.Aggravated Owner Thanks this. -
I had Dusty do it at Walcott... Diesel Doctor. I think they are over by the "j" in Davenport now. That was done about 2 years ago. But I also had put on a Bully Dog ceramic coated manifold, replaced the waste gate turbo with a Borg Warner 171702, and put a blanket on that from PTP turbo blankets, and heat wrapped the flange pipe off the turbo. Runs back to twin stacks up the back with Walker Megaflow mufflers. Did all of that when the glider got finished at the dealer before Dusty worked the ECM.
