Refusing a back.

So, someone builds a dock for tiny trailers years ago and now they want 53s in there, you think it's your job to do that..? What if it was YOUR truck they told you, "You're going to have to go over the curb" with? For the love of god, we are not companies last chance for a freight delivery, we're OTR drivers (I assume you guys gathered that this is the group I'm refering to in this thread). There are customers that need to have it known that their facility needs straight trucks or pups for deliveries. You're a company driver Joeseph, I know who you work for. Do you get paid extra for crap like this? Will your boss "let it slide" that you damaged company property "because it was a really hard back"..? MANY of these places have NO IDEA what it takes for you to back up that truck. The place I delivered to today, I would not have done it if I owned the truck (things like this are a good reason to stay company...). Had to jump over a curb just to barely get up to the opening of the building. About 15 feet between my nose and the building across the street. Road almost completely blocked, to the point I thought one of them was going to scrape my truck, because half the traffic turned around instead of trying or jumping the curb. Cars literally had inches to spare in front of me. Guess what? I didn't back up to a dock, just to the front of the shop. The opening of the building was barely higher than the freight in my trailer... What I'm getting at is, there's no reason this guy couldn't have just unloaded me on the street, and drive his forklift an extra 50 feet each time. There were only 6 crates. But he didn't care about me damaging my equipment, about maneuvering in and blocking traffic, leaving my tractor sitting PASSED the middle of the road while he unloaded me... My job is to deliver freight, to customers that have the proper equipment to unload me. Why should I get paid the same for a D&H at a Wal Mart DC if I have to do a blindside 90 in from a city street between buildings and parked cars..? According to you, I should be able to back into peoples driveways and make home deliveries...

You shouldn't need to be a veteran super trucker just to make your delivery, lol. You can tease me as much as you want. I've never turned one down yet, but I don't take much pride in this job. My pride begins and ends at the fact that my license is squeaky clean, and I already make more money than I have before in my life. You can keep your mesh hat and Super trucker pride, I'm fine making a paycheck that's the same or more than most out here, and I'll do it without putting my license and equipment at risk.
