This is without Plates they said i need to pay 3,200 just for a title transfer. Does this sound right? The company im going to is paying for my base plates...

Sounds like they are charging you Sales Tax since you bought it out of state. I don't know about Ark. But in Miss there is a form you can fill out saying you are gonna tag it for Interstate commerce. Then it is Exempt from sales tax. Check into that.

Also, check with Mercer, if you are getting plate from them, you may be able to title it in Illinois and avoid Sales tax that way also.

If that is including sales tax, it is high. Mississippi is only 3% on Semi trucks.

It sounds like they are charging sales tax. There are ways around that by having the carrier you're going to lease to do the title work in their state. That's what I do with Landstar.

it looks like AR only charges sales tax on the first thousand bucks. Try another person, and by all means, find out what the individual costs are to come up with $3200.

ETA, the $1,000 limit is for trailers. Danny got the right amount for trucks below.

    No kidding,

Im with fortycal, before I coughed that up I would sure exhaust all other options. Talk with whomever does tags, permits at Mercer. I believe they will be able to suggest a better way to title your truck without paying that.

    Good Luck
