For many years I was fortunate to have one of those truck size actual refrigerators in the trucks I have been in. Now that I am with a different company and do not have one I had to go to plan B. I immediately dismissed getting one of those 12 v ersatz fridges because they don't cool things down enough for my liking and stop working altogether in a relatively short time. So I went out and bought a 35 quart Coleman Extreme ice cooler and it is working just fine.
The first thing I did was to connect a small hose to the water outlet plug and have the end of it sticking into a water jug for drainage. This means that I don't ever have to touch the cooler to drain it as I have it strapped into my passenger seat and I leave the valve open all the time. I just have to empty the water jug and that's it. This 35 qt cooler is also low enough so that it doesn't block my view of the right side convex mirror either.
It took about 2.5 small bags of ice to fill it initially and I don't need another bag until every second day. Even then, there is still plenty of ice in the lower part of the cooler so I could even wait one more day before filling it up if I had to, but I like plenty of ice around all my food so I go with adding every other day. The temp inside has been staying around 40 degrees (and lower) measured at the top of the food, no matter how hot it is outside. All in all, I am pleased by how this is working out. Not as good as a regular fridge, but better than anything else I could probably come up with.

Sounds good ..other than buying ice every 2 days. And those 12volt plug ins are junk.

I have an igloo 12 volt keeps everything cold and it has worked good for about 2 years so far.

I bought a Koolatron compact P20 that fits behind the passenger seat and I believe the power plug is the difference, as it doesn't pop out and burn up like other plugs I have had will do. It's made to hold itself into the socket. Even the Koolatron hybrid, which will freeze up and has a thermostat didn't use the same plug
It will freeze the drinks I keep in it if the truck gets too cool inside, and I don't leave it plugged in when I'm not in the truck for any length of time.
I have an Extreme 5 day marine cooler, but it's too much hassle for me to load it and unload it when I'm home more than I'm out. Trying to make unloading and loading up less of a hassle.Last edited: May 2, 2015

I have a koolatron p25 with a door on top. Its ok .. The seal on door slips off on a corner but still fits in place nice and snug, gotta watch it though. Keeps items cool not cold.. Not much else fits in the cab.. I don't use the passnger seat for shelf

I have a 65 quart Pelican cooler strapped down in the top bunk. I only have to put ice in twice a week.
I added a hose and valve to the outlet. I just stick the hose out the window and open the valve to drain it off.
