Heck yeah! Finally I had my road test on Friday and I passed. Now that the stress is off my shoulders, I come to another stressor. Picking a company to work for. Trust me I've been through every little thread on this site. The main concern is being away from the Fiancée since we just moved to Tennessee and all she has is me. So I was debating about either driving for Waste Connections(home daily, low starting pay area for advancement), Roehl (advancement potential higher pay due to GI Bill) or McElroy (Guaranteed home Friday & Saturday avg $900/wk). I will have to get my mind made up before the middle of the week since I am suppose to leave for Roehl next weekend. Not an easy feat when the ol lady decides not to put in her input. wish me luck!

Have you checked out you're local Coke, Pepsi, or Beer Distributor? Generally they pay alright and you will be home every night and have benefits and they hire new guys off the rip it's where I got my start.

Have you checked out any of the vocational jobs and this is something that I should do or consider as well and think about periodically, but like companies like RJ Corman doing railroad services related work and what I mean by that is not shlubbing metal containers from place to place, but you would be doing a lot of railroad construction and things like that train derailments and hauling heavy equipment (you might not be home everyday, but you would be in the same region more or less.) working on broken down locomotives say a locomotive traction motor goes bad out on the road you guys would go in with boom trucks jack the locomotive up and then tow the bad traction motor out and put in a good one or a dummy until that unit can get back to the diesel shop. I know RJ Corman doesn't pay as good as the real railroads, but might be a possibility, you would get way more then truck driving experience on a job like that and would probably learn some really really good skills.

Or what about the real railroads (something I should look into as well)? Working in the Maintenance of Way Department for CSX or Norfolk Southern, probably get good experience operating cranes and other heavy equipment and learn a great deal.

Or you can do what I do, and work for a food service distributor. Sysco, US Foods, Gordon Food Service and many others for the most part that's all home daily and the pay is just as good or even better in some cases then OTR for the most part..or Less Then Truck Load something I'm also working on. Look you have plenty of options LTL companies do hire new guys with CDLs there's a great deal of guys on here who LTL was where they went right out of school.

I will say this I make very good money working for a broad line food service company, the LTL's guys who run the road do a tad better then me money wise (working on that right now), but like if I was you check out and I don't work for them, but guys on here do and they love them, but check out ABF or Holland Regional both respected companies especially ABF that's the place to be.

Even like Estes is a good start you'll get good experience on doubles, same with GFS if you work at a yard for GFS you'll learn how to build sets and learn how doubles work all good stuff to know.

Burkhart Enterprises in Knoxville. Try them with a personal visit. Usually they want a year experience, but you just never know.
