If it were me I'd take Waste Connections. Don't get hung up on the starting pay, the fact that you're home every night and you're an in-house driver for a environmental company tells me that you'll probably end up sticking with this job longer. That's just my humble opinion.

Do the type of trucking that you're satisfied with.
Don't let others, including your girlfriend, decide for you.

Look for a positive; you come home some day and the girlfriend/wife has packed her bags and left. Now you think, "All right... now I don't feel so guilty about flirtin' with/hittin' on that hot little waitress in Baytown."

 

If you will beat the pavement, websites and stop in at places that have trucks for their own delivery you maybe shocked what you can find local(happened to me).

I'll just say that when I was getting my CDL, I scoffed at a $15/hr local flatbed job offer. I went on the road and, and even tho I was probably grossing more with the road job, it didn't take long to figure out that my hourly compensation was far less than the local job I was offered.

So keep in mind that you'll be compensated for all of your time with the hourly job. With the road job, youll spend a lot of time tethered to your truck that you'll be paid very little for, if at all. In addition, the expenses can be high (unless you want to screw around with a cooler, make sandwiches, cook in your truck, wash your George Foreman grill and coffee maker in truck stop sinks, etc)

 

First off, I like the McElroy. I have friends who have driven for them and been very happy. The problem is the MaxForce motor in their International trucks. I would ask what year they are and if they say 2013, 2014 I would look somewhere else as there is a huge amount of down time on this motor. If they guarantee you $900 a week no mater what and you would be home Friday and Saturday, I would go with them. My next choice would be Waste Connections. Home every night would be very beneficial until your girlfriend has made some connections in town. Being alone in a new town, with no one to talk to and family miles away is a great way for you to come home to a empty house. I guess really the decision is where are your priorities? Is she the "one"? IF so, I would think very carefully before leaving her to go OTR. If she is not talking to you now about what job you should take, that is a warning bell. "Oh baby, I don't want to stand in your way of your dream!" But really she hates the idea of you being gone for days on end.......Not a good place for either of you. To summarize, figure out what you want to do with your career and your GF and proceed accordingly.
