You are the 1st driver I have seen post that they have a 2 year window to test. Most usually post only being issued a 90 day medical card. Hence a 90 day window to get tested.

Thing is you have to see same doctor each year to get card renewed, i think....others with more knowledge can speak to that. If you have to see same doctor then yes. If you dont no. Im going to just cause my uncle is on a cpap and says it makes a world of difference for him.

I normally go to another doctor. My question is does it go into a national database or just their doctor database?

Yeah I got a two year card. It was weird.

you are lucky its a 2 yr card. i just got deemed forr a sleep study and doc gave me a 3 month card. doc sends report to national database. you dont have to go back to same doc for next one. if you choose to, you can go to another doc(as long as he's on the registry list) and get another physical done. but will have to wait 30 days from time of first physical. that way you wont be redflagged for doc shopping. also, you most likely will have to pay for the second one yourself if you choose to go that route.

    xlsdraw Thanks this.

Will they see the other doc said I needed a sleep study? Basically will I have to get a sleep study done before my next one? Such a pain. This career is bs. Pays good but over regulated.

Doctors who tell you that you need to get a sleep study done are lying to you, so they can get kick-backs from the people doing the sleep studies. The law says if you fall into a certain category, you need to be checked for sleep apnea. It does not mean you need to go get a sleep study done. It means you need to go to a qualified Pulmonary doctor, to get examined.

Back in February of 2011, I went for a D.O.T. physical. I was heavy, and my neck size was too big. The doctor said he was giving me a 90 day medical card, so I could get a sleep study done. I went for the sleep study, and was told I needed to get set up with a cpap machine. To have the report finalized, I had to go to the Pulmonary center, and get a doctor to look over the report, and get me cpap machine. I went to the doctor, he said that I had no visible signs of sleep apnea, and my (100% Honest) answers to his survey gave him no reason to think I had any problems, but the report that he got from the sleep study place told him I had problems. I asked him if I had come to him first, before getting any sleep study done, would he have cleared me? He said yes. But since I got the study done, he could not ignore it.

So started my 3 month trip through the innermost layers of HELL. I had to strap this baseball glove to my face every night, and have it force air into me. I would wake up in the morning, feeling terrible. My stomach was all puffed up, and it hurt. My first hour every day was spent belching uncontrollably, and passing gas out the other end of my digestive system. I was looking for a WAY OUT OF TRUCKING. Then I found a better paying job, and was hired. I had to go back to the same exact people for my physical. They told me once again, that I needed a sleep study. As I read the fine print on the notice the doctor gave me, it said nothing at all about a sleep study. It did say that I had to be "Evaluated" by a qualified Pulmonary doctor. I went to a different guy than the other time, and he once again told me he saw no evidence of me needing a sleep study, or any medical restrictions. He signed my paperwork, and I headed back to the place I got my physical.

I walked in, and showed the doctor that a Pulmonary Doctor had certified me. He said I still needed to get a sleep study done. I politely told him that the Pulmonary expert didn't feel I needed a sleep study done, and had certified me. The Physical doctor became very irritated with me, and said he didn't care who said what; he was not going to issue me a medical card. I told him I had met all the criteria put to me, and my lawyer would be calling him if I did not get a medical card. Then I asked to be given the name and phone number of the facility's legal people. He told me the girls up front had that information.

I sat out in the front waiting room, for about 30 minutes, waiting to be given the information I had asked for. Finally the girl called me over to the desk. She handed me a 2 year medical card, signed by the doctor who had given me all the grief. Then she very politely informed me that they would no longer be able to perform any services for me, now or in the future.

Read the fine print on the paperwork, when they tell you that you need a sleep study done. It probably talks about you be evaluated by a Pulmonary doctor, not getting a sleep study. Don't let some doctor push you around, because he wants to get a couple hundred bucks thrown back to him from the sleep study people.

If anyone is in the Philadelphia, PA area, and has issues with these sleep study scam artists, I have 2 places that don't play those games. You still need to be healthy, but they will not send you for a sleep study, unless you are presenting symptoms of Sleep Apnea.

He didn't give me any paperwork . Just a dot card and a list of sleep studies and their cost. Not that it matters but it was an African doctor who barely spoke english and he was overweight lol. I believe it is a scam.
    Here is how it went.

I got there and filled out the sleep study scale. Put all 1 or 0 out of 5.

Got my weight checked, eye test, blood pressure, neck size. By nurse. They did not check my height.

doc came in 20 min later and first thing he said was, you have to do a sleep study because of your bmi. And then said, don't go anywhere else because I'm putting it on file that you have to go. Here is a list and prices of everything. Then did a half assed physical, took all of 2 min. Then walked out. Seriously, he just checked my reflexes.

Then the nurse hands me a 2 year dot and said I have to get it done before my next one.

Would I just go to another doctor for an evaluation?

I'll have to check my longform. Thanks for the info guys.

It's crazy how sleep related accidents are not very common. Majority are from drivers not being trained properly and yet they continue to push this. It's all about money.
